1LE knuckle/spindle - factory markings..
I just finished up rebuilding the front end of my '91 1LE Z28, and thought this would be something interesting to share with you guys. The car itself is full of factory chalk marks and parts tags. I have taken some pics and thought that perhaps the #3 chalked on the bottom of both the L and R spindles and the purple inspection paint would make some interesting discussion. (I am the 2nd owner of this Canadian 1LE - no accidents or past rebuilds - so at least this is what I think the purple paint and #3 came from - the factory?).

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
I don't know about any purple paint marks and guessing whether that means anything; but that sure does sound like an awful lot of extra work, to accomplish something that can be done with no guesswork at all.
All you gotta do, is look at the 2 caliper carrier bolt or dust shield screw holes. If they're dust shield screw sized, they're not from a 1LE car. If they're caliper carrier bolt size, then, guess what.

sofakingdom,
I wasn't posting the pics to help people id the spindles at a swap meet (although this might help) but - just sharing the pics of what the spindles look like off an unmolested car - perhaps what they looked like from the factory - these were special parts so maybe the paint and the added attention helped the assembly line choose the correct parts for 1LE applications?

Cool. I recall 1LEPrototype still had a spindle brand new in the box from back in his racing days and it too had purple on it.
I have a set of brand new ones, but they are take offs from a GM Cutaway car and were detailed. So they are a nice shiny black now ... but at least they are next to new. I should strip the paint and make them look like yours.
Mark.
