88 Formula ?'s

Recently picked up a 88 Formula. The car is super clean with only 51K on it. It has the L98 and WS6 packages. I was wondering if anyone knew how many were built in 1988 with these two options.

P.S. the car is red w/o T-Tops if that makes any difference. Also, what was included in the WS6 package?

Engine: 5.1L TPI, 5.0L TPI
Transmission: 700R4, M5
Axle/Gears: Sag 3.73, B&W 3.45
13,475 Formulas had the WS6 (All of them)
10,973 L98's in 1988, 6,913 of which went into GTA's

Therefore 4060 L98's went into Trans Am's and Formulas in 1988.

No further breakdown.

The WS6 package was standard on all Formulas in 1988 and included N96/PE0 16 inch aluminum wheels, a 36 mm front sway bar, 24 mm rear sway bar, a 12.7:1 steering ratio, gas charged shocks/struts, and stiffer springs. Some sources say that it also included four wheel disc brakes, but I have seen conflicting accounts on that. My 87 Trans Am has WS6 but rear drums, not discs. Sounds like a beauty. Congrats!

A little WS6 history:
From my understanding WS6 was introduced in the mid 70's and it included 4 wheel disc brakes, better suspension, stiffer springs, and the quick ratio steering box. The option was droped for 3 years and re-introduced in 1982 as basically the same as before.

For 1982, 1983 and possibly 1984 the case was the same it included 4 wheel disc brakes, larger rims (15" for 1982 1983, & 1984), stiffer springs, larger sway bars, and the quick ratio steering box. During that time they also had another option that was identical to WS6 except it used drum brakes it was called WS7. If my history is correct in 1985 with the advent of the SPID sheet with the "Regular Production Order or option sheet" Pontiac decided that the WS6 & 4 wheel disc brakes could be broken apart.

In 1985 the WS6 was as stated by 87taairlinebird, 16" rims, larger sway bars, stiffer springs and fast ratio steering box but the rear disc brakes were a seperate option and no longer included in the package. This remained the case thru 1992...

As a side note, ALL Formulas and GTA's from 1987 thru 1992 got WS6 NO EXCEPTIONS, WS6 was an option on the Trans Am. Also the performance gear ratio was inteneded to be used on all LB9/M5 and L98/A4 when installed on a Formula and GTA, although some cars got through assembly without the performance ratio.

The WS6 suspension package was first available in 1978 and did not include four wheel disc brakes. Four Wheel disc brakes were first available in 1979. The WS6 package was available from 1978 through 1992 without interuption. Four wheel disc brakes were part of the package in some years but not always. Untill the WS6 package was brought back in 96 (or 97 I forget) it was only a suspension package, there were no engine upgrades. The fourth gen cars added Ram Air to the WS6 package. The W72 package (The "T/A 6.6" engine, the standard 400 had 6.6 Litre decals on the shaker) of 1977 to 1979 did not inluclude WS6 or four wheel disc brakes but each was available as an additional package for these cars.
