How do you find History on this car?
I just had an interesting experience trying to find the history on my 83 Camaro z28...tried CARFAX, and they could only tell me from 91 to present...so they are refunding money because it was not complete...so I called the Ca. DMV, and a manager was able to tell me the car was regestered in a town close to were I live between 85 to 94. I know the car was made at the Van Nuys plant because of the letter L in the vin code.
I called Chevy headquarters, they told me their mgf records only go back ten years....also the Chevy dealer told me the same thing.
Does anyone have any idea how to get the history on my car from when it was made in 83 to 85???, it is the only two years I do not know where it was registered, but most likely California.
When I bought the car, asked the dealer to give me the name of previous owner, and called and talked to the brother of the owner, and he confirmed his sister owned it from 91 till when I bought it in 04, but unfortunetly did not know who had it prior to her sister's pruchase.
This probably seems trivial, but it would be great to have this history complete, and if I ever sold it, it would be a good selling point, especially now that CARFAX confirmed it had no problems, wrecks, etc. to their knowledge.

It seems that DMV records fall off the planet in 10 years or so, Its the funniest thing, I did a CARFAX on 11-11-2003 and I got the records back to 1987 on my 87, A second CARFAX on the same car was done on 1-5-06 and it only went back to 1995.
My second 87 Formula I did the same thing, I had a report done on 11-11-03 and it went back to 12-29-87 when the car had 264 miles, I did another check on 1-5-06 and it only went back to 9-3-1991. THe First recording was Gone completely from the records.
I do know that some searches are better than others, CARFAX, seems to be the most popular, but better information is out there, I ran a CARFAX on Formula #3 on 10-11-2005 and CARFAX went back to 10-19-1995, another report by AutoCheck/Experian Automotive went back to 2-15-95.
