Well, yeah
It's history related and I'd like to know what people think of a car they've owned for possibly almost 20 years.
Whether it has been worth it, whether it has been expensive, what parts worked well, what didn't...I thought it would be useful

I bought my '86 new, and have loved it. Buying it new has allowed me to keep it in great shape from day one, and I know exactly what has been modified, replaced, or repaired. Maintenance wise my Camaro hasn't been any worse than any other car I've ever owned, but I have had to rebuild the T5 tranny several times, and finally replace it all together last year. Other non-maintence parts that have failed over the years (I'm at ~130K now) are the panhard bar, cat, shocks, rear hatch pulldown (twice), power window switches, and the oil pressure sensor (several times). Not much else has gone wrong.

I've owned my IROC since new, and it's been probably one of the most reliable cars I have had.
The biggest gripe I had with it was it needed the alternator replaced every 2 years.
It was a daily driver through snow, ice,and sleet until it dropped a valve, it has now recieved a complete mechanical rebuild, and does duty as a nice day/weekend cruiser I plan to enter it in some local shows once it gets a much needed repaint.
The parts that had been replaced (prior to the valve dropping) were:
5 alternators
1 distributor
exhaust (cat back)
other than normal maintenance that's it in
219,194 miles. Not a bad record if you ask me.

I have an '85 L69 IROC that was ordered before they were on the streets! Needless to say, since I still have it, I love it! I love the handling but its always been a bit short on power. Even so, the car has really been problem free, until it started sitting for long periods. Its got almos 120000 on the odometer and still passes our biannual smog checks with flying colors. Now I'm starting the mods I should have done a long time ago. I've got a rebuilt 350 sitting in my garage waiting to be dropped in, just a few more pieces to get together. I figure, I'll have the motor broken in by the time I'm ready to turn the car over to my son.

I bought my car new in 89 and its been a daily driver ever since. So far I've logged 315,000 miles on the original 305 and its still going strong.
I did a cosmetic restore to the car last summer as it was looking pretty beat, looks damn near new now. I don't regret one day of owning this car! Check my web site...

Chalk me up as another original owner. Currently I have 200,000 miles and going strong. In fact, it is faster than the day I bought it due to "freeby/cheapie mods" and prom burning.
The two most problematic areas would be the alternator (gone through two) and oil leaks from the intake manifold (4 times). I am fixing the oil leak by going to a Miniram with some new heads (and cam)...on the original stock bottom end.

Well, I didn't buy my RS new, but my parents did! I still remember getting out of our '88 Subaru wagon (the trade in for the RS) when I was 9, and seeing it for the first time. I remember being driven to my first day of 3rd grade in it, the first time I drove it, my first date in it, etc...
It was my high school graduation present in '98, and has served the family well for 96k fairly-trouble-free miles...and as much as it kills me, the car is officially up for sale Between having my beautiful '97 30th anniversary Z28 and my very nice daily driver '95 Grand Am V6, I just don't need the car anymore. The $$ I save from not keeping it will allow me to buy what I really want after grad school...the IROC I have lusted after since I saw my first one...a yellow '85 TPI with t-tops when I was 5. Even being 5 years old, I knew what TPI was
Some memories die hard, but I figure I can start a whole bunch of new ones when I get my IROC....only 2.5 more painful years of waiting

my dad brought my rs listed below for my mom on his birthday in august of 1991....i pitched the biggest fit cause he wouldnt let me go with my mom for a ride in the new car..... he traded in his 89 chevy truck with v6/5-speed for it.......a couple of years earlier he had a 68 mustang gt fastback that was baby blue and had black c-stripes.....worked up 302 n/a that was cranking out around 450-500 horsies..radical cam....shook like a ***** at a stoplight...he says i never cried in that car..he'd crank it up and id have a big grin on my face......i wish he kept it too....sold it for 2 grand to a preacher ...and he had at least 4 grand in the tranny alone.....oh well......im happy with the rs and as soon as i save enough money im buying a 89-98 gt black/ 5-speed :P

Bought mine new. Paid around $18,500 for it. Traded in my '79 Z-28 (piece of junk!) for it. Took a few years to get the bugs out, but it's been a great car over the years. I have about 86k on it.

I bought my 1983 Firebird S/E brand new in Sept. 83. It has been one of the most reliable cars I have owned (and I have owned 23 cars), until last week when the 2.8 H.O. V6 blew at 268,000! Oh well I am going to do a full resto now and keep all stock-all GM!

I bought my 92 RS new in December of 91.
Still have the window sticker!$16,800
Only brought it in under warantee once, for the clutch slave cylinder.
Put 225,000 miles on the stock 305,before swapping in the 350.Still ran fine at that mileage.Had the T5 rebuilt once,as I used to bang second gear a lot.Went through a lot of clutches and sets of brake pads/shoes over the years, but it's been the most trouble-free car I've ever owned.
Synthetic oil since break-in probably contributed to this.
