Hatch Glass Reveals

Can the hatch glass reveals be removed and reused. Those things cost more than the heated glass!!!!

I think he's talking about the black metal trim that goes around the glass section of the hatch.

hmmm... is that stuff re-usable? i always assumed it would come on a new hatch. while i ahd it off i would sand and paint it. it might look good body color.

It is the metal "u-channel" around the glass. The glass comes Heated(defrost) w/o those black channels at a cost of $400-600 Heated. Then you have to order the 2 "u-channels"/reveals. One for the right and one for the left. Each is over $400. So I would have $1200-1400 just in materials cost to replace my back glass. I am hoping someone was able to reuse the channels and save myself $800. The glass shop is telling me they have to be replaced.

Why can't you just reuse the ones you had? Or goto a junk yard and get them from another F-Body.

Unless the originals are somehow damaged. I know you can get them from Classic Industries, but they are very expensive as you pointed out. Pretty rediculous for 2 pieces of metal.

I want to resuse them. Just not sure if possible. Mine are in good shape and wondered if someone else was able to remove them without damaging them. If they come off, I'll powdercoat them and put them on the new glass.

The orginal glass was gouged/damaged over time from the louvers(sp?).

Car only has 55k orig miles and has always been garaged. The defost elements are in great shape it's just the glass is scratched beyond repair.

I tried the junkyard and found reveals in much worse shape and the sun has wreaked havoc the defrost lines. So it looks like replacement glass!!!

I don't think defrost has anything to do with it...unless you were trying to buy a whole rear window from the junk yard w/defrost. My TA doesn't have defrost. Just try and remove the reveals themselves. Probably glued on somehow. You wouldn't need the whole glass panel.

I was looking for the whole glass w reveals and the defrost in it. It's the glass that's bad. Mine just happens to have defrost so that's what I'll replace it with to keep it as original as possible. The reveals are ok. I am just going to order the glass and see if I can salvage the reveals from the existing hatch glass.

I had defrost, and the metal stipping around the edge of the glass wasn't attached to it I don't think.

It isn't easy to remove though, as it is glued and bends easily.
