Ground effects... Correct color?

My 83 L69 briar brown Z28 has... lets see ... Green, brown, black, gray, and silver ground effects! Impressive. I now have most down to bare glass, where do I get the correct color/ and paint to get them original again?

The paint code for the silver on the gfx took me about five years to find. It is code 7448 Dupont. I used it on my '84 Z28 and it looks perfect!

Not on a brown car, it should be gold. Silver was on Red, Blue, and white Z28s.

The original color is silver! Gold? maybe on a firebird! How did dupont come up with that color? Only reason I ask is the closest one is almost 2hrs away and I have a sherwin williams like 20min away. Might be nice to drive a few less hours if I don't have too. But if you are positive that's it, I would be curious as to how maybe S.W. could find it in their colors.

The Sherwin Williams store should have a cross reference chart for the other paint manufacturers. A very good friend of mine works at a GM dealer in their paint shop and I found the code by going through one of their paint chart books. It was buried way in the back under "accent colors" and was listed as "17 Silver 1984: 7448 Dupont".

17 was not the paint code in 1982-1984 for silver, the code was 15.

Well, appearantly you don't know. Just because you've photographed re/mis-painted cars doesn't make you an expert on what was available from the factory. By your statement I can show you an 1984 350 TPI Z28 with a T5! Here is the only picture I could find online depicting a brown Z28 with gold ground effects.

Also, the literature I have does not specify silver ground effects for a brown car, it was not an option. I also have various pictures of 1982-1984 Brown Z28s, all with gold ground effects, not silver. orange rocket If you're Z28 has (as you said) "My 83 L69 briar brown Z28 has... lets see ... Green, brown, black, gray, and silver ground effects! Impressive." it indicates the ground effects were probably replaced. These things get damaged easily.

They most likely haven't been replaced. As you sand them down and they all end up silver means what??? Silver? Ohhh! I wish more people with actual production # could prove this but oh well. Because I found other colors does this mean the green roof with a blue cross is original? or oh wait maybe the blue lines going down only the driver side of the hood. Whats next a 83 L69 wasn't made? Didn't have a glass hood? or was the only year with manual clutch linkage, first year of T5, they all didn't have 3.73 gears etc etc etc. Get GM books that actually prove this till then I think the 83 sales brochure is can we say CORRECT!
