Third generation cars were built in Van Nuys there entire run from 1982 to 1992. the plant closed in 1992 when the last 3rd gen, a Red Z28 coupe rolled off the line. Chris

In episode 41 of The A Team {Trouble on Wheels] there are shots of the Van Nuys auto plant.
I recently had the chance to meet Dirk Benedict at a convention in Detroit and asked him if he could remember anything about shooting in the Van Nuys area. He said that there was many shoots in the Van Nuys area and the auto plant featured in episode 41 may have very well been the one that made the camaros.
So my question would be how many auto plants where in Van Nuys around 08/84?
If your lucky you might catch this episode on TVland. I have all 94 episodes of the A Team on tape so if anybody wants a copy of this particular episode, mail me.

LOL, Take a look at my car, never been painted and it's the OEM paint. Mines not peeling. That happened after the Norwood plant closed in 1987 and GM sent the acrylic paint equipment to Van Nuys (which used strictly water based paint). What GM didn't know at the time is you can not use the equipment for acrylic with water based paint (or vice versa).

California had only one GM assembly plant, and that would be the Van Nuys facility. You do know Hollywood (Burbank is actually where the studio for the A-Team was) is minutes away, right?

BTW, the last vehicle out of Van Nuys (I remember watching the ceremony on the news) was a red/black stiped heritage Z28 L98. Don't know if the guy still has it or not, apperantly he was there though out the build of the car (I think he was local).

They had a cerem0ony on the news? For the Camaro or the plant?I wish I would have been old enough to know what a CAmaro is and to see something like that.

I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT

1983Z28 350w/ edelbrock performer RPM power package , dynomax shorty headers, 700R-4 with shift kit, 750cfm carb, edelbrock 3" exhaust system, 16" IROC rims and ASCD SS hood.

future mods:
SLP headers, completely done over suspension, black paint with flames, NEW PLAN IN THE MAKING:
BUILD A WILD CHEVY 302 JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL Z28 HAD

Yeah, for both. The news covered a portion of the ceremony. Odd thing, their were rumors of the F-body being discontinued due to poor sales and that is why the plant was closing. Those were the rumors in my area. That is when they also announced (earlier in the year) that the workers would either have to transfer to St. Therese, or be laid off. I was 18 at the time. I've been interested in the Camaro since I was ~5 (my uncle had a "new" 1977 Camaro) and Z28s since ~8.
