As rare as my 1987 Z28 convertible is, the one car I have not located in over ten years of searching is a 1987 Camaro Sport Coupe convertible with the LT option. Unfortunately, there are no production figures available because the LT was an option on the Sport Coupe as is the convertible (RPO Z08). Chevy never kept track of option combinations. Has anyone ever seen or heard of such an animal?

I've seen a lot of '87 Converts over the years in IROC and sport coupe clothing, but I have never seen an LT or plain Z28 in person (have seen a pic of a Z though). I have read Hemmings every month since the early 80's and I don't remember even seeing one in there. If there are any out there they must be very very rare.

I have actually located a total of ten 1987 Z28 convertibles. Of the ten, eight have the 305 LG4 with auto and two have the TPI with 5-speed. You could not get a carbed 5-speed or TPI automatic in convertible trim in 1987. I own one of the two with the TPI/5-speed. The other has no options except A/C (kind of weird). Mine is equipped with the 1SC option package, which includes just about everything.

There was a guy here for a while that had an 87 vert. It was a base model. Whether it was an LT or a SC, I don't know, but it was the only non-ground effects thirdgen camaro 'vert I'd ever seen.

There was also that guy from overseas that had a non-ground effect camaro vert too. I don't remember what year it was, but when he restored it, he put OEM ground effects on, along with an LT1 and complete 4th gen interior. If I get time tonight (not likely) I'll see if I can dig up the urls.

Theres someone who lives close to me that has an 87 Z28 convertible, its beige. Other than that I know little about the car, but I have seen it many times since the late 80's, same owner. Has a personalized plate.

Someone at my school owns/owned a red convertible that was probably a SC, I am not sure. I dont know much about those models and what they are supposed to look like. If I ever see it again, Ill check it out.

It just occured to me that if the car was anything other than an 87, it would have had ground effects no matter what trim level it had.

Really? Hmmm... Well the car I saw didnt have any gfx on it, it was red, and IIRC it had some striping on the lower half where the gfx would be if it had any. It was for sure an ASC converted car.

The one year only LT option turned a Sport Coupe into the successor of the 1986 Berlinetta, except for the "Star Wars" instrument cluster. It came standard with the custom interior (optional on all other lines), etc. It had unique exterior striping and unique wheels (still 14-inches though like the Berlinettas). It had an optional wheel, identical to the Berlinetta, except it was silver, not gold!! I've never seen an LT with this wheel. Also, fog lamps and a power driver's seat were options, not available on the Sport Coupe. Also, you could not get a 5.0 with 5-speed in the LT.

Just purchased a 1987 Z28 Convertible "20th aniversary edition". is this car very rare? do you know how many were made? the only emblem on the car is on the dashboard, is this normal? I've never seen one before, so I don't know a whole lot about it. and, yes, I am rather new at this restoration thing.

This is just my opinion, but that dude from Norway has what looks like a real '87 convertible 1 of 263 and he destroys it, sorry it makes me sick. Chris '87 convertible

I don't think the guy knew what he had. I mean think about it...in Norway EVERY third gen has to be a rare commodity. My girlfriend just came back from a 2 week trip to Europe, and said there was only one third gen she saw in the thousands of miles they traveled...a black GTA.

On a side note, there was a lowered, silver Prelude in Paris with a whale tail spoiler. Her friend from Slovakia (a foreign exchange student here last year) screamed "RICE!" out the window of his "phat ride..." a '96 Ford Ka. This proves 2 things....

1) Slovakian cluture disdains Japaense hot rods as much as we do
2) People driving 1.4 liter cars smaller than a Festiva shouldn't be yelling at anyone

Super83Z, I talked with Wille, sent him pictures. It's a white 1987 Z28 convertale with a black top(should be tan), tan leather seats, tan interior, and a black dash. The convertable is the "HIDE-A-WAY" type. The engine is the LG4 305 with the 700R4 automatic. The strips around the ground effects are black(bot), gold(mid), and tan(top). Right now, the car doesn't run, it sat for three years with a tank full of gas, so that should prove fun to clean up, but I will fix it. Talked with my better half, thing I gonna pull the engine and do a tear down and rebuild. If you want a picture, I can send them.

I know the car in Sweden may have been rare, but the end product none-the-less is pretty nice looking. Very understated and a nice stance. I would like to see more photos, of the LS1, etc. What blast to drive I bet!
