What is difference between IROC nad Z28?
I am more of a Firebird person, so I really am ignorant when it comes to the Camaro models. Basically, I was wondering what the difference was between the IROC and the Z28 during the later third gen years (87-92).
Any information on avalable engines would be helpful too. Thanks!

Well from 85-87 the IROCZ added monochrome paint (ie GFX same color as body), 16x8 aluminum wheels, matching V rated Goodyear Gatorbacks, the Wonderbar, IROCZ badging and striping, foglights, and delco bilstein shocks. From 85-87 you could get everything from an LG4 up to the LB9. In 87 the L98 became available. Of course from 88-90 there were no Z28's without the IROC. The only real changes were the wheels, location of badging, and instead of carbed engines it was all TPI or the LO3.

well I would have to say that the only differance is the year of production, other wise they were one and the same. In some years chevy called them Irocs and others Z/28. After a customer poll they decided that the Z/28 will stay as the performance name because of "netalgic rememberance" reasons going back to the 60's-70's name for the performance package of the camaro.

For these years, the IROC-Z was a graphic and suspension option on the Z28. That's why the 1985 thru 1987 IROC-Z's retained the exterior "Z28" emblems.

Sorry for coming on a little strong on my last post. It didn't seem that way when I typed it..
The suspension differences for an IROC-Z include:
A slightly lower ride height, about 15mm,
Specially valved struts,
Delco Bilstein shocks,
"Wonderbar",
and of course the 50 series tires, which the IROC-Z was built around.
Also, the steering box has limited stops to prevent the larger front tires from scraping against the inner fenders.
Similar to the Z28 and IROC-Z are:
Springs
Sway bars
Steering gear ratio

Survey? They stopped production due to losing the IROC contract to the Daytona, but maybe it was due to a survey they lost it, but more than likely it doesn't make sense.
