Re: What was the FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?
My first was a 88 Iroc that I got from my dad back in 91, well not really mine but I drove it all the time. That car is the one that I got hooked on f-body's. My 92 is the first one that I actually own.

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?
im 26 years old, i bought my first and hopefully only camaro i ever need (solid car, hopefully it never get messed up) 1-1/2" ago. i just plan on keeping her fixed up. fix what brakes and make it stronger to boot. i wanted a camaro since before i was even old enough to drive. i rode around it my stepfathers 84 Z28 when i was growing up. i was hooked since. i was afraid to buy one when i first started driving. i knew the insurance would kill me, and i couldnt afford 2 cars at the time. when i turned 25 my insurance became more reasonable, i at least made enough money to own two cars so i finally bought my camaro. it was love at first sight. a very much rust free car, t-tops, v8 engine (even if its only a 305 TBI, its still a v8). i was in heaven, and i have never looked back, im still as thrilled with my car as the day i bought it. oh i didnt mention, my wife wants a camaro or firebird. i trying very hard to talk her into a 3rd gen, she wants a 4th gen. if she bought a 4th gen i wouldnt be disappointed, but i dont know if i want to work on it. besides i like the shape of the 3rd gen cars better. so hopefully we can be a 2 camaro couple. she's going to school to be nurse. maybe when she's done with school, i can talk her into a nice IROC vert. that would be sweeet. by the way MY rs is staying in the family permantly. i keep it if and when we have kids, ect. She understands that my camaro will not be traded, sold, or otherwise taken from me. its my daily summer driver, and i have kids someday, the camaro have car seats in the back. if i ever have a son, he will learn to love it. it will flow in his blood like it does mine. sell a camaro becuase you have kids is a very poor decision. i would want to share it with my kids.

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?
My first Firebird that I owned was a 1986 V6. I purchased it when I was 15, and made the mistake of selling it when I was a senior in high school(1996). That was my favorite car that I owned but a co-worker hit it in the parking lot, so I got rid of it (insurance check for damages plus money a friend paid me for the car was 2K more than the car booked for so I couldn't turn it down. Unfortunately from 1996 through 2007, I didn't have another firebird, but I finally purchased a 1992 Trans Am vert.

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?
my first was an black 86 pos 2.8l mpfi v6. i think it was a 2.8 maybe a 3.8 idk, the thing leaked so much oil and smoked so bad it wasnt even funny, and sometimes if you broke too hard, the car would stall and you would loose all steering abilities. the trunk leaked, the muffler just fell off at one point, and was the biggest nightmare ever, but it was my ride so it didnt matter,
i sold that to help buy a 92 rs, white with red stripes, and ttops!! had that for a few years, and now own the camaro of my dreams (besides owning a yenko) a 91 z28 tpi. gotta love those third gens though.

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?
My first Camaro was my first car...
I'm almost 32 now, so this was exactly half my life ago. I was 16, in high school, and these cars were the "king of the road" back then in terms of what to drive in high school. I wanted one, but didn't think it was going to happen. I grew up, and still live in NJ so we didn't get our licenses until we were 17.
I had expressed my interest in getting one when my late father and I would go for some of my first drives with my learner's permit in his grey 1985 Pontiac 6000. He seemed opposed to the idea, and felt it was not a good choice for a first car. My father never really cared about cars, or expressed much interest in them beyond having a reasonably reliable one. Driving was simply not entertaining to him in any way, and he simply viewed it as a method to get from point a to point b.
So I was completely shocked and amazed, when 3 months before my 17th birthday, he turns around to me and says what do you say we go look at some cars. So he has the paper out - this is 1993 mind you, pre internet. And he has circled all the Camaros that were within his budget.
We went and looked at a couple, mostly v6 RS cars. Then out of nowhere my mom was talking to her friend and found out her son was selling his camaro after telling her we might be looking for one. It was a 1987 Z28, 305 TPI, 700R4, base model. No power options, hardtop, only real option was A/C. Had 70k miles on it. At the time he had been offered $4500 on a trade at the dealer, and said he would be willing to let us have it for that price.
So, my dad decides to go look at it. He does not take me with him, came back, said it was no good, and didn't mention it again. This is on a Friday.
To my surprise, my jaw almost dropped and I jumped for joy when I was coming home from school on the following monday, and as we approached our house on the bus I saw a black Z28, with the grey gfx sitting in my driveway.
I was floored. This was MINE!
So I go home, litterally running from the bus, to check it out.
I spent the next 3 months counting down the days until my 17th birthday when I would have my license and be able to drive it. I spent every free moment playing with that car. I would back it out of the garage, wash and wax it every weekend. I would sit there for hours looking under the hood, and pretending I knew what I was looking at...
So the magical day comes, I get my license. By this time I had saved for the GTS Headlight Blackouts, and a new pullout sony cassette deck... I forgot it only came with an AM/FM radio!
All is great in the world for the next 3 weeks. Then the formula for disaster takes place. Me, and two of my friends in the car, all 17, all young and dumb, with my new z28, going to pickup the 4th amigo. On the way, a sudden strong thunderstorm begins. Me not knowing any better goes around a corner, and gets into it. The tail swings out, and I basically freeze. From what others have told me my foot stayed glued to the floor. I went up the curb, hit a big oak tree broadside on the drivers side, and a telephone utility pole on the passenger side. In 30 seconds it was all over, my dream destroyed (or so I thought). Thank god none of us were hurt beyond a few stitches. We are all still friends, and occasionally talk about that night over a couple beers.
So my father, being the man he was, was absolutely furious. He got the insurance check, but refused to fix the car. I did this he said, I have to live with it, or make it right. So I spent the better part of my summer between my senior year and my freshman year in college "fixing" this car. I bought an 82 v6 car with a blown motor for $300. Used it as a parts car. Used a ridiculous amount of bondo, this car had over a gallon in it when I was done. But I swapped the fender and the door myself, I swapped over the power windows myself, I learned the hard way. I didn't do anything the "right" way, but I sort of got it all back together. Even my neighbors were impressed...
So I head off to college, and my father decrees that he wants the car sold, and that he will help me buy a new used car with the proceeds.
I still remember the guy that bought it, I would recognize him anywhere. I sold this car, with like 12 coats of rattlecan krylon gloss black which i managed to look good with hours of hand polishing with turtle wax white compound for $3500.
For several years afterwards I wondered what became of it..
I actually at one point found some old paperwork at my parents house, and carfaxed the vin somwhere around 1998-9. Turns out at that point the car appeared to be still on the road, and had a 140k odometer reading.
My dad ended up buying me an 88 olds cutlass ciera, fwd etc... I've been through a lot of cars since then, but I always loved that z28, even for the 3 weeks I drove it.
So now, I'm back with another one, hopefully older and wiser...
Take care,
George

Take care,
George
I got my first Camaro back in Feb 07. It was a 92 RS. Sold it in July 07 to buy an IROC-Z. After I sold the RS, no IROCs for sale were in my price range anymore. Then I find a 4th Gen for sale. And like a jackass, I bought it. I really want a 3rd gen. Oh, and I dont have a licence yet.

My 1992 350 black with grey interor camaro. When I was only 15yrs. old
My parents bought me that then on the way home from the dealer me driving and them scared shitless, they thought it may be too much car so they also gave me the Cadillac STS 32v northstar had to drive that around for under a year.
Got to love the parents and all the *** I got at 16 with those cars. Every kid at school at 15 was like " you are full of ****" when I said what I got in the driveway. Then they ride there bikes over and where like WTF.

If I knew back then what I know now, I would've kept the 84 Z28, only becaue it was an L69 car with 3.73s and posi rear. My love affair for F-Bodies began with Knight Rider in 1982 and intensified in 1985 when I saw my first IROC-Z. That being said though, I feel that my T/A is the best example of the 3rd gens that I've owned, even though it's a base T/A with just A/C,auto, and LG4 std 305. Hell, I've owned my T/A now for 7 years.
No. 5 might be a '91 RS with LO3 and 700R4 for my son, He'll be 16 in May '08.

1. 78 Firebird Esprit (started with a 3.8, then a 67 340 Buick, then a 64 300)
2. 76 Trans Am (started with a 400 Pontiac, then a 425 Buick)
3. 90 Firebird (V6-350 Buick)
4. 84 T/A (empty-350 Buick)
5. 79 Z28 (empty-400sbc)
6. 87 Formula (305-350 Olds)
7. 83 T/A (empty engine bay)
8. 86 T/A (empty engine bay)
9. 85 Firebird (2.5!!!!!)
10. 88 Firebird (V6-???) still working on it!
I got the F-body bug with the first one. I was in high school and I got that car for 35 bucks. It was a rag. The engine was knocking and there was so much bondo... The interior was ragged out, and even the windshield was cracked! It had four different 14" rims/tires. I put on a set of my 15" Buick rally wheels and I pulled the V6 and dropped in a Buick 340. It was so much faster than the other cars I had owned, I just couldn't believe it. The handling was great with only a little tweaking and a few trips to the junkyard for springs and sway bars from a T/A.
That's what gave me the f-car bug. They are big enough to put any engine you want in them, yet small enough to operate like a fighter jet instead of a cargo plane! They are mechanic-friendly for the most part and they put a smile on my face every time I am behind the wheel!

My first one wasback in 1989, a 78 Type LT, silver with red interior.
I beat that car hard... went thru 3 transmissions.
I wish I would have kept and taken care of it instead of trashing it out.
oh well........

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?
My husbands first 3rd gen bought a year before we met was
85 Firebird V6 Auto, it only got better from there on out, once he met me!!!
Our first car together - We got 87 Firebird 305HO 4 Barrel -
Dumbass smashed it up for his first DUI - Somebody should have told him you can't run from the cops in the rain - was PULLING away when thankfully the car stalled
One & ONLY MISTAKE should have never let him puppy dog eye me into buying it - Husbands LOVE for 3rd Gen took over tried to restore one that should have been junked 87 2.8 V6 - needed way too much 90% rust bucket
89 Formula Firebird 305 TBI - No longer have as we have improved our collection
88 Firebird Formula Clone - Beautiful car sold to pay off some debts from dumbasses DUI
86 Trans Am - Currently restoring to get ready for track - 28000 Original miles with Crate 350, Mallory Fuel Pressure regulator, Pete Jackson Noisy Gear Drive, Lifters & bigger cam, Flow master dual exhaust wiith Headers - Can hear us coming down the road
87 GTA 305 TPI manual T5 with headers- my car as we are in process of restoring as well, was debating on letting her go, but I can NOT go through with it.
Once our cars are ready & done I am sure we will be seeing some of your rides as we will be entering into competitions - My goal - to take his - too bad he is the one tuning my car - one thing I got to learn!!!
Love seeing everybodies rides they are all sweet. Shenna

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?
First car was a 68 Firebird that I bought in 1977. It was well worn and met its demise a few weeks later courtesy of the back end of a large Ford.
Second car was bought a few months later. It was a 68 Camaro Sport Coupe. Did an amateur restoration on it and sold it 8 years later.
20 years ago I bought my current car, a 68 Camaro RS convertible. This one's a keeper.
Currently helping my son restore the 86 Z28 he bought last month. I'm happy he has inherited a good taste in cars.

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?
86 Camaro 2.8 V6, had it for ten years. I got 250,000+ miles out of her before the transmission went and the engine was running on its last leg. Body had gone to hell after 3 years in northern New York. Winter is hell on cars there, so much salt. Overall she treated me well, sold here to a guy that had the money to restore her. It still brings a tear to my eye when I think about her, allright not really but I do have fond memories of her. Ahh, the old days, damn I'm getting old.

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?
My first was a white 1987 Sport Coupe. I got it back in 1994 during my very last week of high school. I used my graduation money as a down payment. After I had it for a year I put the '91-'92 style ground effects along with some RS badges on it and got it repainted. I had it till 1999 and I finally had to sell it. It was starting to nickel and dime me to death. It killed me to watch the new owner driving it away. They don't live to far away though, and whenever I'm close by I drive by just to see if they still have it. I always see it sitting out, so I know it's still up and running.
I always told myself when the time was right I'd seek out an Iroc or a '91-'92 Z28. After looking for a solid year I found a nice white '92 Z28 that I'm proud to call my own.

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?
I've always loved camaros. When I was 16 in high school (1986), this guy used to drive thru our apt complex with this brand new 1986 iroc-z. It was black/gold w/ t-tops. It was the most beautiful car I had ever seen. Any way when i graduated and joined the Navy i bought a 1981 berlinetta with the 3.8 v6. Blue on Blue. I had fun with that car until the engine blew. then my father threw in a 400 sbc. That was more fun. I traded that car in 1992 and it took me 6 years to get the 84 z that i have now. I really would love to have a black Iroc-z with t-tops for some reason...
