Ok, I went and looked at a 1986 305TPI Z28 the otherday. They guy wanted 1000 for it but had no title. There is a long story here. Aperently he bought it from a guy who some how obtained it with out the title. The original owner was a lady that we can't get a hold of by phone. There is her address on the title statement from DMV. Anyway my dad got the car down to 700 but the deal was, if the title does not come up clean then the deal is off. So sometime during the week we will got to DMV and see what is going on. My dad also gave the VIN to a cousin who is a cop to see if it is stolen. The only real peoblem is that the 2 guys before us did not have the title. Anyone have this problem before and/or know what will happen or we have to do.
The Z28 is is good condition it and new trans, black interior , red exterior, and glass t-tops.

I am not sure if its the same in every state. In the state of GA (this is just for example) a junkyard has to have a title on all vehicles in their yard, otherwise the vehicle is considered stolen. I think what happens is that the yard and other business such as tow companies, apply for a salvage title by going through the states DMV office and must wait 30 days before obtaining the title. During that 30 days I think the DMV is running a check on the VIN provided to make sure the car is not stolen.
Best thing to do is call your state DMV or local tag office and they can instruct you on how to obtain a salvage title, or something to that effect, it could be different from state to state.
One other thing, have you ran the VIN through carfax? Well worth the money.
