Carfax makes errors?
Has anyone had issues to where carfax pulls up your report that your TPI car is a TBI.
For example.
Year: 1991
Make: Chevrolet
Model: Camaro Z28/IROC
Style/Body: 2 door coupe
Engine: 5.7 V8 TBI
Mine did that and made me suspicious of my own car.
Although my 8th digit is an "8".
I figured it just typos the "P"

Car: To many to list
Carfax is really nothing but a false sense of security to the buyer.Dont realy 100% on carfax when buying a car.I have a car that was stolen once and partially stripped(totalled out) then fixed and stolen again partially stripped and damaged. The car got totalled TWICE!! Nothing on carfax AT ALL.

Carfax is overrated. There are lots of ways of doing things to a car that won't get reported. All they check is DMV records that I know of.

carfax thinks my car was originaly sold in washington state. my original factory invoice shows it sold to a dealer in honlulu HI. somone must have special ordered the "limited edition" GTA. there were only 9,000+ made that year. perhaps the 1st owner could not find any in his own state and ordered one from the islands
carfax is almost useless.

Yes do not believe everything you read about a car in CARFAX. I just ran a few of my past cars in there and most had a lot of errors. My 97WS6 T/A was listed as a salvage after I sold it to someone and there is nothjing on CARFAX about it being salvaged. The current car I own now was salvaged due to water damage from a rain storm. CARFAX list my car as a clean titled car with no issues at all. Another one of my last rides, an 87 GTA, was totaled after I rolled it into a ditch after hitting black ice. The car was towed away and I got my money but there is nothing of that incidnet in the CARFAX report and it says it is currently registered and on the road in the neighboring city here.
I would personally never use CARFAX as a sole way of investigating a car you plan on buying. Use your best judgement based on the cars condition. People are getting sneeky when it comes to selling cars. Even the newer cars can be messed with to show lower milage then what it really on the car. For a few hundred bucks, someone can easily buy a gauge cluster with lower milage and replace it with the OEM one. You just have to find a cluster that has the miles as close to the last recorded milage in the DMV. I seler can increase the va;lue of their car by a few thousand by just doing that. it sucks that there is a lotof that going on in the US and it up to the the buyer to look for the signs.

I had the same issue about a salvage titled 1991 Camaro I bought...just for kicks I checked it through carfax and it came up clear to them yet I was holding the stamped salvage title....Carfax is a joke
