I need help with option packages!!
I know there is no information on compounded options, but while trying to research my cars options, I came across option packages.
Let me explain. DD8 is the RPO for the rear view mirror/automatic. This was available in 87 on the LT, Z28, and IROC. According to Chevrolet, there were only 901 DD8 equipt cars produced. My problem is that this option was part of Option package 3 for these 3 models. The option package was FLA4 for the LT, FZA3 for the Z28, and FRA3/FKA3 for the IROC. Does anyone know how to find the production numbers for equipment packages? It sounds to me that if this was part of option package 3 and only 901 mirrors were produced, that only 901 Camaros were orderd with option package 3. I would then assume that I can take total vehicles available with this option (93290), divide by the number of those vehicles that were IROCs (38889) to get about 2.4%. I could then take 901/2.4 and say I have a 1 of 375 produced. Does this sound right?

In 1987 there were 51,201 1SC option pkg 3 for the camaro. I think that is 901 DD8 auto inside mirrors ordered that didn't come with option pkg 3.

Raising old threads for the dead are we???
Honestly I have never seen in person an auto-dimming Factory mirror, so I know they are rather uncommon. My thoughts are that the LT, Z28 and IROC with the Level 3 option package may have been the only way you could opt for the auto-dimming mirror. Therefore it was NOT a Standard thing that came with Option Level 3, but an upgrade for Level 3, and NOT an available option with the Level 1 or 2.
Of course they may have dropped the item from the option list at one point during the Model year for one reason or another, and only 901 were installed. Of course we all know that the 1987 Data is WAAAY off in the White book... Thus why I seek other alternative data sources to check & verify...
Like the Russians say... "Trust but VERIFY!"
Just a thought

Holy cow is this old!!!
This question has been answered since I originally posted it. Since it was brought back up and will be seen by others, here are the details.
1987 was the first year for option packages. GM did not do a great job of keeping track of options because they were keeping count of packages. The problem with that is stated by Mr396 above. If the mirror was part of package 3 and there were thousands of package 3 available, then the total count should be thousands more than the 901. They weren't sure how to count options as packaged or individually. At some point they figured it out, but the count is already off. If what Mr396 states is correct, then instead of 901 mirrors sold, there should be 52102. That number is high as there aren't that many cars with the auto dimming mirror. This is where the conflict of the 87 data comes in. The mirror is just one example. Look at the AC RPO and you'll see a major discrepancy there also.
