Was on my way home today... caught a Red light where I was in the middle lane--Flowmaster rumbling. Walking in the cross walk were some 30 construction workers returning from break. As they ALL walked by they were EYEING the Red 87 IROC big time. The car has been meticulously maintained, waxed, and even repainted with original stripes, stickers reapplied. In the condition it appears.. it's probably the top 5% of IROCs on the road that haven't been driven in the ground--looking like beaters. It kinda caught me off guard as I was waiting for the red light because each of the workers were scoping it out and one of the workers even complemented me on my car--like a mini car show. I thought the scene was kinda reminescent of the cheesy 80s CHevy commercials back in the day

I get the same thing with my MSE from time to time. I get it with the Chevelle all the time. Good feeling isnt it?

Yes I know the feeling. I had a Walgreens Drug Store employee chase me down in the parking lot as I drove by their front door.
He complimented me on the Camaro and said something to the effect of hearing Phil Collins "In the air tonight" Very cheesy!
Thats very cool that happened to you on your red IROC.

Try daily driving a 1971 Trans Am! Having people stare, follow you, getting flagged down, and people telling you about the one they "used to have" is a weekly occurrence.

You should have seen the rubber-neckers the day I brought it home back in 2000.

Nobody pays any attention to my '84 T/A.

I get a lot of "rubber necking" when I drive my restored Firebird 400-- gold with black vinyl top. I get almost as much attention from chicks then guys when I drive THAT car...it must be the gold color. The other day a chick had her kid ask me "what year" is the Firebird... thathis mom wanted to know..."

I don't get as much attention when I drive my 89 TTA... except from the occasional "IN-N-OUT" burger drive up window saying something to the affect: "That's a cool Turbo 350 you got there".

71 Trans Am HO 455 is in contention as my favorite Muscle Car... the 2nd runner up is the 70 1/2 Z-28 Camaro. The 3rd runner up is a toss up between the 87 GNX and the 89 TTA. I am partial to F-bodies.

Top 5% huh, buddy of mines dad has an IROC not sure of year, but i think it's an 87 that is in MINT condition inside and out. ORIGINAL paint white with black and red trim. Black interior and a 5 speed manual. How i envy him and his cars, funny thing is he never really brags about any of them. Heck i brag about them more than he does.

I have had similar things happen in my Formula, and its a good feeling. BUt if you really want to get noticed you have to ride around in my old Riv, I think if I were to park it on a corner there would be several accidets caused by it... It is much like some of the other stories... People like good looking old cars...

I have had numerous complements about my car, but there is one that stands out.

I had just parked at the movie theatre parking lot (next to an expensive looking modified newer mustang) and was walking in when some high school age kids drive up the lane where my car was parked and the girl in the passanger seat said "I want that car!" The dude in the driver seat said "what that mustang?" and the girl replied "No! The camaro!" It made my night At least there is some hope for the fast anf the furious generation!

IMO... the failure of the 4rth gens have to be attributed to the soap dish looks. IMO... a clean/tight IROC, 91-92 Z-28, and GTA is hard to beat in the looks department. Buying a car just for the engine just doesn't do it for me. That's the main reason I can't stand the look of the fox body mustangs... they are UGLY. The Grand National on the other hand is just plain ol bad *** in a sleeper tradition. I read an article in Hemmings that the 80s vehicles that are beginning to attain notice are the

Corvettes
IROCs
5.0 Mustangs
of course the Grand Nationals...

Even thought the L98 isn't as strong as the LT1, or LS1 late f-bodies... driving around in the TPI harkens back to a special time in history when perf was starting to creep back into the line up. It's kinda nostalgic for me... To take care of the pesky Lt1s and LS1s...all I have to do is unload a can of whip *** and rip em in the LC2 Trans Am.

Another major factor is you see nice Mustangs and Corvettes all the time (or not nice, but done up :P), but you seemingly rarely see a nice 3rd gen anymore, least around here

I get eyed all the time driving my... uh... other car.
