The body was orig. black,,, the vin on the dash tells me 1G2AX8711CNS0222(X)

Whats your problem?
D 14C 2FS87N225174 - THe last 5 numbers here should match the last 5 numbers of your VIN.
All Firebirds started out as a 2FS87 from 82-84 From there they got the W for Trans AM and X for S/E The VIN you posted does not look right, or you left something out.

Your right and the vin doesnt match the id tag under the hood?? I know this but where else can i find info on the car?? Where are the build sheets? Are there any vin tags on the car??
well from what i see the vin shows its a 82 s/e that had a v6 now the car has a v8 and the tag on the rad support says its a 83 plain firebird.... so im thinking the car was in a wreck or something messed up..... but what if the vin tag was changed what other info on the car could tell me the truth??? the doors are no help as i just changed them and got rid of the old ones.

The VIN sez Firebird S/E and the "Fisher Body tag" sez Trans Am(WS4 = T/A)
On 2nd-gens the VIN sequenced number and the Fisher Body tag VIN sequence numbers do NOT match on cars produced at the Norwood, OH factory. I don't know if this holds true for 3rd-gens. Maybe somebody can answer that.
GM commonly put a "hidden partial VIN" stamped on the firewall behind the heater box. This should match the VIN on the dash.
What is the partial VIN on the engine block? Its on the passenger side block deck surface. Behind the alternator. You should also find one on the transmission.
What color is the interior? On '82 T/As the lower half of the dash and console are dark charcoal regardless of interior color. On base Firebirds and S/Es it was color matched to the interior. This will obviously not mean anything if your car has a dark charcoal interior as all Firebirds have the charcoal lower halves with that interior color.
FYI, '82 T/As with the LG4 carb'ed engine came with the flat hood as standard. The power bulge hood was optional and there was a shortage which left the Crossfire and Recaro T/As with priority.
I found the build sheet for my '84 T/A under one of the rear seat cushions. I've seen them in the front seat springs, under carpet, door panels, dash pads, and above headliners and gas tanks. Keep in mind that it was optional for the line worker to hide the build sheet inside the car. Many were used as coasters for soft drinks while working on the assembly line or just simply thrown out.

well what else would a real ta have??? maybe my car is an se and got hit in the front farly bad that they put on a 83 t/a fenders and rad support,,, i dont really feel like takeing the dash apart to check for a vin....and the trany and engine vin wont help at all as im sure the car off the line had a v6(ocording to the vin) and now it has a carbed lg4 305. Maybe the 305 was also from the 83 ta?? wierd. heres a pic of my firebirds int. it looks light grey (like the seats) color to me. Some of the inter tho i have replaced so if theres anything that catches your eye on what year or what model of firebird it is let me know what you see.

hi i am new here
good day all i am new to this site and hope to get my car decoded for me?
if thats what it is called?
the plate under the hood reads 4 lines of #'s
as follows?
C 08D 2FS87L 566727
18D 75L 75U W
AR9 CC1
D B S 244154
i have read up on some info on the web and did notice this is the first year of new body style and was used for the daytona pace car in 1982 it was also red as is mine
i think it has the WS7 package due to the drum brakes in the rear
came that way due to the 52,000+ made with 4 wheel disk for 10 days they did the WS7 package
i bought this car on ebay and wonder what i should do with this?
it has 97,000 miles seems to run ok as i can burry the speedo in no time flat (85 mph speedometor) it has the black "PMD" seats and the guy gave me the gold turbocast rims?
any info about this car would be helpfull
thanks much and have a good day

i beg to differ on the 82 trans am stuff,
my 82 regular trans am (LG4 4bbl 305 with thm200 and 2.73 8.5")
has the factory steel non functional power bulge hood
and all of dash and console is black, no gray anywhere
the date stamp on the hood is same as on fenders, the date code stamping code deal on them
also last part of body tag matches last part of vin code
jut like it should
interesting.,.,

The picture in this thread isn't of a dark charcoal. The dark charcoal is almost black. Its not even hardly noticeable until you try to swap a part onto a '83 or '84 which is black.
The pic above is pebble gray or some name to that extent. Color matched lower dash and console bottoms were used on base and S/E Firebird.

Actually I thought all Trans Ams got the black dash without exception and the SE, Base and Formula got color coded dash pieces from 82-87...

The Hood is in plain view, like the rear hatch.
The Doors its in the jamb
The front fenders it in front of the wheel wells inside the fender... have to remove the battery sometimes to see
THe rear quarters is behind the wheel well and behind the spare tire, so that needs to be removed and the drivers side is behind the compartment...
There should also be some on the bumper supports too...
they only used them for a few years, I think they stoped in 1990 or 1991.

giggle...
I was thinking the VIN tag...
The date stamp is on the underside of the hoods usually towards the front on the passenger side.
Keep in mind that the date is not the same as the Assembly date... Our cars were made in Assembly plants, NOTHING was made there everything came from outside and the cars were assembled there.

either way though the 82 t/a lg4 cars got the power bulge hood, no matter what
i see that your car is an early produciont, its got the buttons in the door panels to cover where manual crank sjhafts would be, unlike mine that doesnt have them and was built 08E
5th week of august and is the 67676th one
good luck
