were 91-92 TAs w/ TBI only exports?
Hi guys,
I dug up a quite strange VIN: 1G2FW33E2NL209459
Now the strange thing about this VIN is the fact that it describes a 92 Trans Am with a TBI engine, which were never produced officially
Could anybody help me in resolving this mystery? The car mentioned above is registered in Austria and obviously an export model. So is the conclusion that only export TAs could be equipped with TBI engines, or whats the deal on this?

...here the same...
...a TBi-equipped 91/92 Trans Am, registered in Switzerland...
...as you can see... it`s an export version...
...I know a Trans Am could have a TBi-engine before 1990....but I ever thought, from 1990 up only TPI-Trans Am were made...
...till now I have seen 4 other Tbi-equipped 91/92 Trans Am on my own here in Europe...and there was definitely no engine or part-swap...they were no clones/"upgraded" base modells/tbi-birds...
...strange...

What is strange about the second set of pics is that car has the 15" rims, I thought all T/A's got the 16" rims, the only difference was the tires.

Plus the first set of pics has standard Firebird/Formula taillights, but the second set of pics the car has the stock TA/GTA taillights.
Someone in another thread said they heard that exports basically got what was left over, which could be true...
very strange

....????
...you can't see any taillights in the second set of pics.....because there are no "tail shots"...
...don't mix the T/A-pics (a car in Switzerland) with my own car in my signature (Germany).....
....they are completely different ...but the color....
@okfoz:
...a 1990 - 1992 T/A could have 15" rims from factory....when it was a "non-WS6"...
...but back to question:
...are there any 91/92 tbi-equipped T/As in the US (or made for US market) ....or is it an export thing?

No the LO3 was not available on the Trans AM starting in 1990 for the US. It appears as though it was an only export thing, as they would have different dealer order worksheets. I know the Formula was not available in some countries.
