Lear Siegler seats
The 1983 Trans AM MSE#103 I just got has these seat in it. They adjust 6 ways. On the window sticker I see the cost 750.00 back then. Does any one else have these seat in there car? I also have recaro seats in a 1983 Dayton car and the Lear seat are better.

85/TA what do you mean? These seat hold you in the seat. They are performace seats. The sides can be adjusted to suck you right in.

That's correct, they were never offered for the passenger seat in a Camaro.
My first new car, an '83 Z28 had that option.

It was cool.....the Camaro and Firebird were very popular, and NO ONE thought that a Camaro of any year was a white trash car in those days. (I blame the late 80's BMW 318i-driving yuppie scum) ![Big Grin](https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
If people liked them more than the 2nd Gens, it's mostly because the 2nd Gens had been around so long and that we finally had a new, high-tech Camaro (for that time).
I like to think that the 3rd Gen was the generation where the Camaro grew up.....it finally got fuel injection, overdrive transmissions, four wheel disk brakes, leather interiors, articulated driving seats, and world-class handling.
The only thing about the 82-83 Camaros was the lack of serious horspower, but NOTHING had a lot of HP in those days, even the Corvette or a Ferrari 308. The '83 L69 started the horsepower wars that continue intil this day....
Most of my friends had Camaros, specifically Z28s.....one of my brother's friends had a '83 Mustang GT. It ran good in a straight line, but the handling sucked compared to the Z28, it had rear drum brakes, and worst of all, family car-looking steering wheel, seats, and dashboard. The '87 interior redesign for the Mustang look worlds better....
The Z28 was a much better all-around car, but later on, Ford did a few great things that really appealed to the gearheads, namely the world-class T5 (sooner than the F-bodies), and the 8.8 rear axle. Now as used cars, it makes them easier to handle large amounts of power, but when they were all new cars, they were pretty even in acceleration, despite the present-day opinion.
The Mustang never did handle on the level of an IROC or WS6, though. Magazine tests will show that the F-bodies always badly smoked the Mustang on a road racing track. The Mustang seemed to be set up more for drag racing, as it held a .2 second advantage in ETs on the 305 F-cars, while usually giving up that much to the L98 cars.

People in my high school envied those of us that drove newer Z28s. I had an 82 and an 83 during my junior and senior year while the 85 IROC-Z was new and only available to those whose daddy bought the car for them.
During my senior year, there were only 2 Z28s and 2 IROC-Zs and 2 Formulas in my entire school. Very popular cars that didn't carry any negative stigma like today. I agree that the very late 80s and early 90s gave us a bad rep.
For those that remember, would you agree that most people looked at the IROC-Z and as an affordable Corvette? Since we all seem to know what others think of owning a Vette, owning a Camaro was the next best thing!

I always got a huge kick out of the fact that Car & Driver named the '84 Z28 as the best handling American car, beating the Corvette Z51.....the cars were VERY close in performance at that time.
And it narrowly came in 2nd to the Porsche 944 as the best handling car in America, period.
These cars were HUGELY popular in the mid-80's, and we loved it!
