84 Italian convertable Camaro Berlinetta??

this is going to sound weird but i saw a car at work today that another mechanic was working on and i thought at first it was a kit car until i met the owner. it turns out it was a project GM did with 300 hardtop camaro's and sent them to Italy to be turned into convertables, but they were all Berlinetta's with the digital dash, but the wierd part was the trunk was a small hatch, like on the 50's Vette's. the guy said he owned number 49 out of 300 made, i want to know is this for real or is some one duping some one else here, i did some research and couldnt find nothing....so figure i would ask on this board.....it was a cool and interesting car and want to know if there are more, what they are worth, and does anyone on here own one

Sounds like one of those two seat Camaro's you see on Ebay from time to time. If it is, it wasn't converted in Italy.

Does it have a cover over the rear seats, making it a two seater?

Berlinetta is an Italian word. My guess is the owner thought the car had an italian connection because Chevy borrowed the name from Ferrari.

yeah it did have that cover over the rear seats, i wish i had a camera cause it was a very nice car.....i always thought the convertibles were produced later, like 87 and later, or am i wrong? it was something about the car that didnt make sense, like it was a custom job or some one bought a kit for the car

87 is the first factory authorized convertible. However several companies made Camaros into verts prior to that. None with the approval of GM though.
