Does my car need to pass emissions?
I just bought a 1982 trans am. The previous (and orginal) owner installed headers and made the car a true duel exhust. It has two catalitic converters but before I remove them I wanted to know if anyone can tell me what year was the cut off period for emissions. I've heard it was 1983 but can anyone confirm it?

Hellow fellow New Yorker I know good amount about this . Hear in NY the cut off for emissions is 1973 this mean's no cat's .What you heard is 1983 and prior do not have to go on the dyno . The dyno is a much harder test to pass they test your car's emission at all speed's up to 55 .This mean's you have to let someone have to drive your car on the dyno ( have seen some bad thing's happen ) any other ? 's let me know .Befor you ripp any other part's off keep in mind that the test is still hard to pass whithout the dyno .Pass the test first then play around .
