82 trans am blk/gold paint questions
on a 82 thats black and gold .... is the spoiler and mirrors still that flat black like found on other two tone 82's or did they recieve the gloss body color, I remember my spoiler being kinda a flat black when I bought the car but this could have been fading as well.
so whats correct and painting it body color shouldnt matter much right.
also has any repro companies duplicated the 82 stripes on the bottom of the car, I bought a set from a company but all it included was 6 stipes like you find at pepboys and this isnt what my car had, my bottom decal was actually a two inch wide black decal with gold stripes on it. and I've never seen any company duplicate this.
what decals are original to my car such as bird placement and trans am letter placement.

I believe that the color is the same as the body color. I have a black and gold '82 Trans Am and my mirrors and spoiler seem to have the same shine as the body and the paint is still original, except for the front nose and fenders. As far as decals and stripes, I would go with Stencils and Stripes. They are the only company I have found that has the correct decals. Other companies like Phoenix Graphics, and Year One don't have the correct bird decal. If you look at the original bird decal it has 2 "feathers" behind his head. All of the other ones have 3. Also the flame coming out of it's mouth is different. Stencils and Stripes is the only ones I found that are correct. However the '83 bulge decal has a bird with 3 feathers behind his head. Not sure if they changed it in '83 but I know for a fact that '82 birds should only have 2 feathers.
Hope this helps.
Hope this helps.

My 82 has been in the family since new, originally it came black and gold with the mirrors and wing unfinished matte black. AFAIK 83 was when they started painting the mirrors and wing, in 82 even the red and white cars came with the matte black mirrors and wings

Just to update, 1984 was the first year the mirrors and spoiler were painted body color, for all standard production T/As. Daytonas were the only ones that were body color for 1983.
I have seen where the semi-gloss black, over time, will produce a more shiney appearance, but do not believe that even on the black cars, they were gloss.
And if you will notice my sig. pic., mine are body color (which is "wrong"), and would lead some to refer to my car as an 84. (It's happened before.) I just happen to like them to be body color, and it's one of the reasons it gets put into a custom class at shows . Oh well, I like it
Leon.
