How many Convertibles came with a 5-speed?

Hello,
My wife has a 1989 IROC Convertible with a 5-Speed. Does anyone know about how many were manufactured in 89 (or any other year around this time) with manual transmissions?

Taking a quick look on autotrader.com and other sites on the Internet, I do not see many 5-Speeds in the IROC convertible.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

5 Speed Iroc Convertables

I too own an 89 Iroc Convertable with the 5 speed. I bought the Camaro White Book which gives all of the information about Camaros from 67-2002. In the book it doesn't say how many convertables in 89 were 5 speeds but it does say that 3,940 89 Iroc convertables were produced this year.
If you need any other information about your car just let me know or since I see that you live in York you can pick up the book at Carlisle for about $15-$20. That is where I got mine.

Sometime soon, someone will come along here and post the link to production numbers for these cars. It slips my mind at the moment but I know the web site with this information exists. I'll see if I can dig it up @ home.

The information doesn't exist. GM didn't keep records of option combinations. The best you can do is to figure what percentage of cars produced were 5 speeds and use that % for the number of IROC-Z convertibles. It won't be accurate, but it will give you an idea.

GM didn't keep records that way. You can get the total # of verts, and you can get the total # of 5-speeds, but you can't get the total # of vert 5-speeds. They simply didn't keep records of option combinations like that. Oh and my vert is also a 5-speed.

Not sure if this will help with 89 Camaros, but when I called Pontiac in November 1991 to inquire about production figures regarding '91 Trans Am convertiblles, I was given the breakdown as follows: 555, of which 104 were 5 speed manuals That's about a 20% average for manuals v. automatics. But I'm no math expert.

Actually the information is out there, But GM usually does not publish it... I can logically prove it if you follow me.

First off starting in 1984 or 1985 all cars from GM got a lucky little RPO sheet that has all of the options on it and the VIN of that car. lucky for us right... Unfortunately Pontiac seems to have taken the information and wiped their nose with it, because alot of it seems lost. But talking to someone with PHS, they said they have the information it just needs to be decoded, and gone through... I asked for a copy of the information and the guy said, "no way"...

Onward... Since we all have an RPO sheet and for the moost part it can be reproduced, therefore there is a record of it somewhere and more than likely its on computer.

If we were make a simple program and take a Vin and then break it down and we can decifer how many Camaros were made in 1989, thats common knowledge, and then we can break out those cars with the 8th didget of an F, then from those cars figure out which ones came with a convertable, and then those with the 5 speed. The info is there, it just needs tobe decoded and wether or not someone has taken the time I do not know.

Wow, what an incredible find. It's the ONLY one ever made!!! It's going to be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars!! But before we conclude this, maybe you should take a look at his SPID to prove it.

BTW, my '87 Z28 convertible is a 5-speed (with TPI).

Thank you to all who replied to my original post. I guess the short answer to my question is that there are more automatic transmissions than manuals in the convertible, but no one is quite sure the exact number or percentage.

It was good to here form others in this area who also have a car similar ours. Our car was ordered without the I-Roc decal and several people were trying to tell us that it cold not be original and that they all had the I-ROC decal and stripe. Luckily we have the window sticker to show that it was ordered without it.

Thanks again!

BTW: Does anyone know if they will ever make the Camaro again? It’s a shame that there are only a few good American cars left in production…..

The good thing about GM is that it would be easier to list the good compared to the bad

Good afternoon everyone, I haven't been on here in quite some time but if you're looking to find the answers I have gone to a website called comp nine. It'll cost you five dollars and you can check out five vin numbers. It will tell you exactly how many were made and exactly all of the options that came with your car. I hope that helps, have a great day Kelvin

We've previously discussed Compnine several times over the years. While they are a great source, especially if someone is missing their SPID sticker or looking for some "unofficial" figure, they are confined on the data to largely being 1990 and newer or exported when it comes to ThirdGens. That means for the original author of this thread, who has/had a 1989, Compnine will likely not have any records of their vehicle nor the majority of records of other ThirdGens for 1989 for any comparison.
