Did GM make any 1992 LT1'S?

There's a car for sale on e-bay listed as being an 1992 Z28 with an LT1 in it. The VIN shows it as having an L98 but the poster insists it's an LT1.

Can anyone answer for sure if GM put the LT1 in any 1992 Z28's?

Thanks in advance

only Corvettes got LT1's from the factory in 1992. the F-body didn't get an LT1 until the fourth gens in 1993

I see you've only got 6 posts here on TGO. You'll see that falsified info on thirdgens is very common... TGO straightens it all out.

probly because he installed it himself..

the LT1 swap has become VERY popular in 3rd gens over the last few years...now the LS1 swap is gaining steam

I have ran into this sort of thing, myself too!

Earlier this summer, I saw this GTA, that the owner had displayed as an LT1, but as you can see, it sure looks like a TPI engine of some type, most likely an L-98 ?

So naturally this peaked my interest, and asked him about it, and I was told by him, that they only put the L-98 in the 1987s, and the rest of the 3rd gens that got the 350, were LT1s.

At that point I was thinking , but wasn't going to argue with the guy, and just let him believe what ever made him happy:lala:

It pays to research as much as you can, so things like this are not left to, whatever an owner is willing to tell you.

I do tend to read more than post, but this was a subject I figured more would be known about here than I could find searching the net. I have a 25th anniversary Z28 and the engine in my car looks identical to the pictures this guy posted. He's asking over $14,000 which seems quite high for an opening bid. I thought it weird that he had a picture of the fender and over the light was LT1 in blue.

Thanks for the help though.

He's either a major moron, or a liar, cheat, and crook. Not an LT1!

You guys think you're so smart. Haven't you ever heard of the LT1 with the optional TPI induction torque package. It was only equipped in red Camaros sold in the Carolinas. It's super rare. The guy that bought this one knew the guy that knew the guy that cleaned the pool for the guy that worked for the guy that went to school with the guy whose dad was in the Navy with the guy that runs Chevys Bodacious Underground Locked Laboratory for Super Highly Intense Transportation (B.U.L.L.S.H.I.T. for short) vehicle development program. That's how this guy got it.

It's obviously not an LT1 car since there weren't any LT1 Third Gens and the picture also shows it's TPI. But what the picture does say is that this particular 92 L98 Z28 was one of the last rarer mid-year or so switch over cars that used the Corvette parts. This car has the blank TB plate, rough runners, and black valve covers. All Corvette stuff that was used later on just to use up parts since the Corvette had already moved to the LT1 and of course the Camaro was still an L98.

I think the SBC has had center bolt valve covers since 86, along with the one piece rear main.

I thought the same too about the decal...

But really, think about how small that side marker really is and consider that sticker isn't much bigger than that. If you look at some of the other pictures closer to the marker on the front fender, you can see something above the marker lenses, but you can't really make it out. I'm sure if it was a better quality picture, we could see the cheesey LT1 lettering.

I just can't beleive someone would drive around a car advertising it as something it's not and honestly convincing themselves they have something they really don't. It's so very odd how stupid the car buying public really is.

If you guys haven't been following my post on LS1tech, here's the latest email from the seller (who is actually a broker for the owner of the car)...

"Steve,

Against my better judgment I'm responding to your lengthy campaign against
this LT-1. The owner has verified this through the local dealership. This
owner is my client and I've registered my concerns regarding this claim.
Without his approval, I am bound to our contract. I am sorry this listing
has gotten to you.

Respectfully,

Taran Alexander"

Sounds like a snot nosed know it all. I've also sent the seller a email informing of his misadvertised auction.

If you flood him with enough questions and emails, each providing proof of what he truely has then he may be persuaded to change his attutude and correct his auction.

Moron. The pictures show its TPI, the VIN shows its TPI. What else could it be but TPI!!

No, I think that response was the guy saying he represents the seller, and really doesn't give a crap. I kinda agree. He's just doing his job to make a living. Who cares what the seller "claims".

...I know, I know, it's not right, but I'm sure he's got other problems to deal with other than us thirdgenners!

I suppose that it could be an LT-1 from 1970 (used in Camaros and Corvettes); however the center bolt valve covers indicates that the heads are post 1986. It is possible that the guy replaced the block with a LT-1 from the early 70's but that would not be a great selling point as you would not have roller lifters (unless after market, but why bother when you can get a crate engine for less than rebuilding the old motor and buying the roller cam upgrade).

What we can say is that NO, it is not a Gen II LT-1 (i.e. the 5.7 liter used in F-bodies from 1993 to 1997). It is not a complete LT-1 from 1970; at best it may be parts of an original LT-1, but I doubt it.

I see the ad ran out and he's posted another ad, still saying it's an "LT-1" (when he really means LT1).

I am surprised no one has pointed out the fact that REAL LT1s don't have a distributor (in the back) but "opti-spark" (in the front).

I already did in the LS1tech topic. At least they knocked 5 grand off the price

lol the amount of ads for "factory-stock" 350 5 speed cars, super-rare T56 models, etc. is crazy. I wish people would just look it up!!!!!
