Here is the side. I have more pics also if anyone wants anything specific. The VIN# is 1G2AW87S0DN210474. The seats were leather but the guy I got it from had them recovered in cloth, but they look good.

Congrats on being the first who has been able to post the hard proof (cowl plate) of the of the existence of the '83 Daytona Trans Am "Hardtop".

The 604, AQ9, Y82, confirms that it is a '83 Daytona TA. The absence of CC1 confirms that it is a hardtop.

153 '83 Daytona Trans Am hardtops were made.

The discussion came up last year if they really existed when a "Hardtop" '83 Daytona showed up on eBay. A personal friend answered the post that they did exist and even had documentation showing that they did. The sceptics still said "NO WAY", merely because they had never seen one, that the documentation was wrong, and they tried to prove that the car had been converted to a hardtop. The thread turned kind of nasty and this board lost a good member that is a great source for information.

Thanks for dispelling the "Myth".

A friend of mine owned the car. It came from Illinois. If I remember correctly he traded a home stereo and a couple hundred bucks for it and drove it back to Arkansas. He had the seats redone, trans redone, put in a new dash, and new carpeting, and a half-*** paintjob, and drove it for a few years until he got an Iroc. Then the car sat for a few months and he sold it to his trash man. When the trash guys wife blew it up, he bought it back. And it sat some more. I had a four wheeler that he was wanting, that I only gave $400 bucks for. I traded him the four wheeler for the Daytona and a pretty decent "85 WS6 hardtop mentioned earlier. Between me and the friend the car has been sitting about 3 to 4 years. The only reason I haven't done anything with it yet is back in March I bought the MSE seen in my other post and now I'm broke. Also I don't have a shop, and the Daytona will be torn completely down for resto, as it has rusted areas needing attention. Incidentally, in case anyone is wondering, I traded the '85 WS6 hardtop for a '92 Nichols Trident jet ski. So, I don't have it anymore. I will try to post some more pics.

82Recaro, where did you get the 153 production number?

Thanks,

TA76, that would be fine. I'm glad so many people show interest in these cars. Back when I was going to sell it people that stopped by thought I was just going to give it away. Saying "it's not worth $1500 for both of them". Everyone wanted to buy the Daytona and the '85 for like $500! I told most of them for less than $1500 I'll just keep 'em. Boy am I glad I did. Maybe by the time my son starts driving I can have it done. He is 6 right now.

There is one I see every day on my way to work. The owner works at a jiffy lube. Is a hard top & has all of the stickers. Is kind of beaten up. Ill stop & ask him about the car.
