4.11 Gears Stock?
I have 91 Z28 G92 350 Automatic. I read it on my 91 Brochure that the G92 is a "Axel Ratio Performance" They never tell you the Gear numbers. I heard they came with 3.23s. But what other Gears did GM offer? One Guy told me he found 4.11 gears in his G92 1991 Z28 (stock), which i think its
:lala: I dunno what this Special axel performance means..

Car: 1991 Z-28
Engine: Can you say stroke?!?!
Transmission: 700-r4
Axle/Gears: 3.42
If it's like mine, it's a ratio of 3.42. Stock, no 3rd gen came with 4.11 gears.

Check the tech data base. If your car is stock then you have a 3.23 rear end. There should be a code on the rear axle that tells you what gears you have.

Should be a metal tag on the rearend telling you what gears are in there.
Both of my Formulas(G92's)had the tags--both had 350 tpi's ws6 w/auto's and dual catsetups--and both had 3.27's.

Everybody keeps referring to these as 4.11 gears. Is this correct? My 69 Z28 was advertised as having 4.11 gears and it really had 4.10 gears. Which is correct, 4.10 or 4.11?
Not that any 3rd gen came with either. I'm just wondering this off topic.

according to Camaro by the numbers for 91 the gears were:
2:73
3:08
3:23
3:27
3:42
My 87 Iroc has 3:27s stock in it. Got in to a disagreement with my husband today about if it was a 9 bolt or 10 bolt. Found it for sure its a 9 bolt when we crawled under it.

According to the tech data on this site, my '84 Z28 G92 has 3.73 gears. Sounds about right 'cause it scoots damn fast off the line, but on the freeway, even in overdrive, the RPMs are around 3200.

I know what gears came in the 3rd gens. a 4.10 or a 4.11 were not available. My question relates to the those gears being offered on older cars. Were they 4.10s or were they 4.11s or were there both. Alot of people with 69 Camaros refer to their rear gears as 4.11 gears when they were actually 4.10s

The TGO decoder could cover all year RPO codes if they haven't changed. Over the years, GM has reused certain RPO codes, so it won't always denote the same thing. Some people have asked about the color stripes on their car because the TGO decoder says they have orange stripes on a blue car. In actuality, at some point the rpo code specified silver and later on it represented another color.
As an example, the 97 Camaro with RPO Z4C was the white with orange stripe car. In 2002, Z4C denoted the Limited Edition red SS with the checkerboard graphics.
I wasn't being snotty in my response. I was stating that I was aware of the 3rd gen gears, but was not sure if 4.11s were ever offered. I have heard of them and wondered if people were screwing up calling 4.10 gears 4.11s. It sounds like GM did have both at some time. Probably similar to that of the 3rd gen 3.23 and 3.27 gears. Thanks guys for your input.

4.10 and 4.11 were both made by GM
both
so were a billion ratios 2.28 on up through 6.14 all depending on what year and model and drivetrain
gm used axles corp full floating H052 and H072 and H110 with removable carrier unit like a ford 9" from 1947-72 trucks
and dana 60's(SF and FF both) and dana 44's and dana 70(dually pickups only)
8..875 truck 12 bolt
8.5" 10 bolt same as the cars
7.625" 10 bolt
7.5" 10 bolt
and a smaller one for like vegas monzas etc.
forgot what it is,.,. hmm,
dont really care on those models
