85 IROC Engine Question

i'm looking into this 85 iroc that i'm most likely going to buy. i haven't seen the car yet however i will be going to see it on monday. its an 85 iroc 5-speed. my qeustion is, is it gaurennted that its an l69 or is it possibly an lg4? i know it can't be a tpi motor cause in 85 the tpi only came with a 4 speed auto, right? i really want it to be an l69, i got my fingers crossed.

thanx for the help in advance guys,
nick

It's pretty much certain guaranteed that it's NOT a LB9 (TPI).

Odds are heavily in favor of it being the LG4. But, go look at it, you might get a pleasant surprise. You never can be sure until you lay your own eyeball on it.

i just found out that it has 4 wheel disc brakes, i know that this is a long shot but does that increase the chances of it having an l69 at all?

The probability remains the same.... 50%. Either it is, or it isn't.

Get the VIN.

The 8th digit will tell you what it came with. If it's "H", it was the LG4; if it's "G", it was the L69. Of course if it came with teh L69, it would also have come with the HO trim, which most sellers would spare no effort to tell you all about; might even give you the famous "runs too good to be a 305, it's gotta be a 350" especially if they're used to TPI motors and stuff like that; so I'm guessing if you haven't heard either of those things, odds are it is a LG4 car.

No point in guessing a bunch of stuff like that though. It's a complete waste of time. The best guess in the world won't change whatever it really is.

Other things to check for on the rpo codes is G80 Posi, J65 4 wheel discs, FE2 iroc Sports package. If it has all of these, like mine then buy buy buy!
