"Pontiac" center caps.

Between myself and a buddy we've got about 3 and a half sets of black centercaps that simply read "PONTIAC". I figured they were aftermarket but after looking a bit closer, they're identical castings to silver WS6 caps, which to my knowledge aren't offered aftermarket.

Which if any Firebirds ever came with centercaps that say PONTIAC?

FWIW I've seen a nearly mint 82 or 83 T/A around town lately with these caps.

My 86 Firebird parts car had a set of these caps on it when we hauled it back from the auction.

He also has about 4 different shades of gold Firebird caps with the gold chicken. I'm pretty sure that at least two of them are aftermarket.

I assume that you are refering to the Hex type cap (looks like a hex head bolt). Those were used in several variations since '79 or '78, don't remember when they were introduced. I have a set on my '77 that are chrome (chrome on plastic), and I believe this was the original look. Also came in gold, black, and silver through the years and available on Firebirds and Grand Prix. The GP had an arrowhead insert instead of the firebird. I have never seen the "PONTIAC" insert, but there were a lot of these caps made. It may be that the cap is factory and the insert is aftermarket.

The chrome hex style cap is available aftermarket from Ames Performance Engineering.

Sorry for the rambling response that does not really answer your question, but it is late and I am bored.

I've seen 82-84 T/A's with Turbo Fin wheels that have those caps.

From my research the Black "PONTIAC" hex caps were used on 1983 T/A's and possibly early 1984's (they can be seen in early 84 press/GM pictures).

I had an NOS set that I sold to someone who needed them for her 83 (she was missing a few) I have only ever seen them on stock 83's w/ Turbo Fin/Turbine style wheels (N24's).

I currently only have two extra caps.

Here is some info on the cap, this is what was written on one of the boxes:

75K4-1# 10010264

GR.5.858 CAP ASM

D.O.T. 10021896
R3
LYPON

This is how I copied off of the box, so it may not be perfect.

So before I pop the emblems out to install new 'WS6' emblems, does anyone have any need for a set of 'Pontiac' caps?

I'm guessing they're pretty rare, but then again I don't ever expect to use them and they're the most likely candidate I have available.

That is exactly what was on my 83 when I bought it, used, and I still have the complete set of wheels and caps.(215-65-15 Eagle GTs still mounted also).

When a buddy of mine took delivery of his new 84 T/A, it had the bird in the center cap, and for the longest time, I thought mine were wrong, but after much searching for info, I have come to believe that they are the correct ones for the 83 T/A.
