Anyone have any 3rd gen road racer pics like this ?

Got any race car pics? I would also like to know if anyone knows the whereabouts of any original International Race Of Champions third gen cars...Not that I could do it right now, but wouldn't it be cool to build a streetable version? I'm thinking,... buy a used third gen race car chassis, modify the cage and put in two seats, quick change rear, Big Block w/ 600 -700 HP, or maybe a small block with a NASCAR top end (you can actually buy used NASCAR heads and matching intake packages for $3500 to $4000 from a place in NC), add all necessary lights, a heater, maybe vintage air AC. Something inspired by an original Ford GT40, with a highly modified 3rd gen body. ( I know vintage race cars are museum pieces but there has to be some old privateer chassis laying around some where). Take it out on weekends just to watch all the foreign car, tuner guys run screaming for their mommies. Just dreaming, but I would really like to find some more pics..especially side or top views of those radical fender flares, they sure look worlds better than those, flashy, trashy, BS aftermarket kits they used to sell. Beautiful car isn't it.

No pictures, but I do have the Matchbox replica of a third gen firebird IMSA car. Yello with STP paint scheme. The only actual car that I have seen with this paint scheme is a Fiero, so I don't know if this was based on an actual car.

Is it something like this? Bet it looks even better with STP markings.

That is the body, but the paint is different. It has the STP logo on the hood with a wide blue stripe over the top with thin red and white stripes on each side. The number 55 is on the sides with the various "associate" sponsers (goodyear, champion sparkpugs, and son of a gun).

I always loved the look of this IMSA body.

I have also seen some disgusting neon pink and green variants of this car too....

I allways loved the look too. I remember watching an IROC race,or maybe it WAS IMSA, and I fell in love with the body mods...I can only imagine what it would be like driving one on a cruise night..or HOT ROD Power Tour..if it was done right you would be pretty much guaranteed a bunch of magazine features.

Ironicaly this is the car that it seems to be based on, the #55 STP FIERO! Strange, because Matchbox also had a IMSA Fiero...

You are most welcome. I have often toyed with the idea of making a Fiero into an IMSA clone as at one time the body kits were redialy available. Plus all body panels bolt on.....with an LS1 all I would need would be brass handles on the outside for a ready made coffin

off topic but.....I just read this add on E-bay and I'm still laughing..Thought you all would get a kick out of it too...

Up for auction is a set of front and rear seats removed from a 86 Camaro Iroc. These seats are in very good condition for being 18 years old. They are black in color. I will do my best to describe in full the condition. As you can see in the one picture, there is a slight burn hole the size of a penny in the left rear seat. Apparantly the dopes that were wasted thought the back seat was the ashtray and the ashtray was a beer holder. This is a common occurence with these cars. The back carpet is usually trashed as well from underage drinkers thinking the floorpan is a toilet. The driver seat is in good condition and the power motor and controls work, with the exception of the wrinkled lumbar section. This was probably caused from the heavyset driver slouching down driving with one hand while drinking a Schlitz with the other listening to Danzig. The previous owners thought they would customize the driver seat by covering the lower black plastic trim in a velvet material. I dont think this added any value to the car or was a dealer intalled option .Um?, just spray some Flexstone paint to the other dash trim, plaster Edelbrock stickers near the shifter, and make sure the ashtray is completely filled with crap to distract from this piece. Oh yeah install a chain link steering wheel(make sure you have the Grant hub adaptor). and dont forget to install the Kenwood cassette player and make sure the wiring to the rear speakers and amps are lying on the floor so everyone can trip over them. These seats are extremely easy to install. 4 bolts on each front seat and one lower bolt for the rears. A dope like myself removed these and installed a set of 98 Camaro seats in about 45 minutes. There is slight fading on the top of the rear seats and front headrests. Most likely the car was never parked completely under the damaged carport so the sun was able to just slightly fade them. Just throw a Dale Earnhardt towel over them and your all set. Due to the weight of these and the cost of shipping, and I probably couldnt fit these in a box, these are local pick up only. Dont worry I live in a decent part of Phx., you dont have to worry about the huge Doberman attacking you. Im easy to find, I live near the casino off the 101 in a doublewide with a huge 78 Ford pickup with a gun rack parked in front with the license plate that says KEEP HONKING WHILE IM RELOADING . Although I could deliver them if Iron Maiden or Metallica is playing in your town. I'll also throw in a free cigarette lighter to the winning bidder. Once again this is a strange phenomena that 9 out of 10 Camaros that the lighter is missing. Oh yeah I know why, because the idiot that used the lighter was the one that burned the seat and never bothered to tell you. The owner most likely was so pissed he or she just threw it away and covered the hole by cleverly placing the seatbelt over it. I also have a set of matching door panels I will sell or trade for NHRA tickets, a old Escort Fuzz buster, a members only jacket, Coors neon sign, Fisher stereo, or a set of deep dish Centerline wheels with mismatched bald tires. Bid with confidence and check my feedback. I think I described these seats as best I could, if you live in Phx. stop on by and take a look. Maybe we can talk about cars and listen to Whitesnake and have some Whitecastle hamburgers. Please email me if you have any questions or call me on my Motorola brick phone. Sometimes my cellphone doesnt work so my CB handle is mr******topfuelbarnburner. Hey if you dont bid on my auction, at least I killed 45 minutes out of my day, usually time I spent watching Jerry Springer or Dr.Phill. Thanks for looking and laughing. On a final note, anyone who wants to contribute a donation to help fix my 86 Iroc it would be greatly appreciated. Its a real beauty, leaks oil, no ac, damaged quarter panel, overheats, no stereo, engine misses, exhaust leak, bad shocks, window motor is bad, transmission and engine mounts are cracked, brakes are shot, bad power steering pump, and the list goes on and on. I know when this classic is finished and running great, it might be worth as much as my FLOWBEE haircutter. I hope I made your day and made you crack a smile, why take life seriously when you have a Chevy Iroc parked in the front yard on cinder blocks.
