Car: 89 Trans Am vert
Engine: 5.7L
I saw one recently in Madison, WI and I thought it was a regular vert and someone took the pink Indy stickers off the old Beretta GTZ pace cars they had back in 89???. Similar graphics. MAybe it's legit.

This car is legit. There are only a few of them left. Most of the cars were stripped of the decals after the race and sold as a regular Camaro. The Camaro has been used at the Indy track for the 500 since the late 80's. After the race, the cars are returned to their original state.
The Camaro was used in 90 because the beretta wasn't a convertible and they use the convertibles for driver introduction.

I think you've got your info backwards...
In 1990 the BERETTA _WAS_ the official Indy 500 Pace Car. There were repliacs made turqoise and yellow colors. The convertible was never brought to production but it WAS used (there were about 10 total prototypes made) for the actual Pace Car duties.
THAT CAMARO IS A FRAUD AND A FAKE.
This **** gets my blood absolutely boiling!
The Beretta was the 74th Indy 500 Pace Car and besides, that Camaro is a 1991 and it has 1990 badging on it????? From a Beretta none the less...
Here's the quote: "This Chevrolet Camaro is one of 33 Indianapolis 500 Parade Cars from '91 (the 74th Indy 500 race). NOTE: this is a "Parade Car" NOT a "Pace Car"."
-- Parade car or not, the 1990 indy 500 was the 74th, not 1991. Besides that, the CAMARO was NOT the Parade/Festival car for the 1990 Indy500... The CORVETTE was!
You'd think that the guy would have been able to figure out that in 1991 it was the 75th Indy500.... AGAIN - THIS CAR IS BOGUS.
Need proof:

Thought the CONVERTIBLE never made it to production, they did produce about 7500 hardtop replicas:
Straight from a former Beretta nut.

Dante,
Chill out! You're out of line and incorrect. This car is real. You don't know what you're talking about.
The race always usually uses the next years car. The 91 Camaro was used as a festival car for the 1990 Indy 500. My 2003 Monte Carlo Brickyard 400 was used for the 2002 Brickyard 400. The 2003 Corvette was used for the 2002 Indy 500. The 1992 Viper was used at the 1991 race, etc...
The Beretta was the Official Pace Car, the Corvette was used for driver introduction, and the Camaro was used for the month leading up to the race by race officials and the driving teams. The Camaro was used for parades and festivals promoting the race. That's why it's called a Festival Car.
I made a mistake above when saying the Camaro was used for driver introduction. The Vette was used as you stated, but that's about all you're right about.
There were only 3 convertibles made not 10.
There are 5 Indy 500/Brickyard 400 cars in my family. I know the guy in Indianapolis that decals all the Festival/Parade cars for the Brickyard 400, Indy 500 and the F1 race. I also know the people that manufacture the strobe light setups and the decals for the races. I also have close contacts within GM that secured me 1 of 12 2002 Brickyard 400 Camaro SSs (45 went to dealers and 12 were COPO cars sent to GM). I also have in the family 1 of 17 2002 Z28 Indy 500 Festival cars. If you'll recall, the Corvette paced that race.
Again, this car is legit and Dante is uptight over nothing. Camaros have been used for many years as parade vehicles. Parade vehicle are not pace car replicas as he seems to think. They were used to get the drivers and race officials to the race and to race festivities prior to the race. Most of them get stripped of the badges after the race because Indy has so many of them around that dealers have a hard time selling them!
Any more ?'s, feel free to ask. I'll get you the CORRECT answer!

Yes, I was a bit "lively" in my original post because I genuinely believe the info on that car to be incorrect.
During the time that I have been into Berettas, I have owned 2 1990 Indy models and therefore have done extensive research on the 1990 Indy year...
I can see WHY a 1991 would have been used (being that 1990 Camaro model year was so short) but NO WHERE else have I seen ANY other Camaro's with 1990 Indy 500 badging on it. All I have seen is Corvettes, Berettas, and the 454SS trucks.
I was not confusing them with pace cars, I know the difference between the model specifics. It just seems a bit odd that I have never once run across another 91 Camaro claiming 1990 Indy 500 affiliation.
As for the # of convertibles, GM only made 3 Pace Car convertibles, but there are other 1990 Beretta convertibles that exist as prototypes for the Pace Cars.

The guy that owns the car in the above picture used to own the one that was seen in Wisconsin. When he found that one, he said he would never let it go. I now know of 3 of the original 33.

Re: 1991 Indy Parade car?
I posted about that already. The local dealerships in Indiana get these cars after the races. Most of the cars have had the decals removed. I would almost bet that there are members on this board that live in the midwest, have a festival car from one year or another, and don't know it. The only way to find out is to run the VIN # by the guy that decals the cars. He has a spreadsheet of all cars/trucks used for festival/parade activities. Of the 33 Camaros used in 1990, I'd bet that less than 6 are still badged and in use.

Re: 1991 Indy Parade car?
I live in Indy. I am not into what they do now, but back in those days they would slap Indy decals across a variety of models for the parade. They had done that for years. As stated, the decals were often removed. Once in a while I will happen across one.
