Someone is trying to tell me that '92 Camaro's didn't come with the 700R4 that they had the 4L60 that the 4th gens have. I know this is not true, does anyone have GM literature to back that up?

The 700R4 was renamed the 4L60. The 4L60E is the electric controlled one that came in 94+ F-Bodies. The 4L65E is the replacement to the 4L60E.

Ditto. Your friend has a 4l60 and a 4l60e confused as the same transmission, which they obviously are not.

when did they start calling it the 4L60? When I asked the dealer what transmission I had in my '92 he looked it up in the computer and said 700R4.

It is, sort-of. They are one in the same. As it was mentioned above, the transmission was just renamed.

So if I look at the '92 service manual and the '92 dealer opions and other literature I will see it called the 4L60?

there are quite a few late birds that got 4L60's...
