The 700R4 was renamed the 4L60. The 4L60E is the electric controlled one that came in 94+ F-Bodies. The 4L65E is the replacement to the 4L60E.

Ditto. Your friend has a 4l60 and a 4l60e confused as the same transmission, which they obviously are not.

the case is the same, but the innards are stronger...my dad is the one who sets the 100,000,000 dolalr machine to cut ALL gm auto trannys...were talking clearences of 1,000th of a micron....thats like a 100,000th of an inch lol...
anyway like is aid the cases are the same but the 4L has some stronger parts in it....
there are quite a few late birds that got 4L60's...
