Smokey and the Bandit III
A friend of mine bought a 1982 Trans Am. It's white with dark carmine red interior, but he wants to repaint it black and put small red bird decals on the sail panels and front fascia. I told him that's similar to the Smokey and the Bandit III car, so we've been calling him "Bandit".
Anyway, we were looking for photos of the 1982 black Trans Am they used in that movie (sans Burt Reynolds), and found lots of articles about how awful that movie is, but ZERO pictures of the T/A used in that movie. That's amazing. As enormous as the world wide web is, it's incredible that I cannot find one picture to show him.
Anybody have any pics from that movie?
He's replacing the 140 horse 305 with a 330 horse 288. Should be a little more interesting than stock.

Car: 1987 Pontiac Firebird 82k miles
Engine: 2.8 V-6 (173 c.i.)
The movie was made in the summer of '83, so it's either and 1982 or 1983 T/A... it's not a Recaro if you look at the seats and door handles.

Car: 88 TBI Formula, 98 LS1 TA, 77 400 T
Color scheme is black and gold, they were all black and gold. The 77, the 81 Turbo TA, and the 82.
As a side note, Pontiac never made a "Bandit Edition". The only cars licensed as "Bandits" were the 81 from Trans Am Specialties (they dropped in a mid 70's 455 and did a lot of embrodery), the Bandits 2, 3, and 4 from Choo Choo Customs (customation limited to body kits and decals).

Well, a 288 is a 283 cubic inch Chevy small block that's been overbored 0.030". It's the same stroke as the high revving 302 Z28 motor from 1969. It's physical redline is 8650 rpm, but it'll be cam-limited to about 6000 or a bit more, for emissions purposes. His 283 is one of the thick-walled versions that can be safely overbored a full 1/8" to create a 302, but we had these pistons on the shelf. The motor should make 335 hp and 330 lb-ft, which is a lot better than the 305 that came out of it. And mileage should be just as good.
The other thing brought up by the last post was the Bandit II car. What we're talking about is the third movie, which was an early third gen Trans Am. That was the one where Burt Reynolds was missing entirely, and although none of the movies were really all that good, the third one was awful, even for a car guy. Beautiful black Trans Am, but that's about it.

One of the strong points of that movie was the ability to show the public how easy the bowling ball hubcaps can fall off

Thanks man! Got the download and the pics are pretty good, a little rough, but lots of shots. Thank you for taking the time to get those screen captures. How did you do that anyway?
