Factory V6 Z28??
Well I was stumped the other day when I was parting out this car at my local fire hall.(It was donated and I get to part it out as long as it still looks like a car in the end) Anyways, this car is a Z28 (or at least had all the badging, and is the multi-port V6 engine). I was really confused as I thought Z28's only had V8's as base engines? Here is the VIN so u guys can look your selfs:
1G1FP87S5GN163485. It is a 1986 car as well. Please someone fill me in here? Did they actually make these? Thanks!

The VIN decoder specifies that is could have been a sport coupe OR a Z28. The car you saw was probably just a Sport Coupe that someone made to look like a Z28. All Z's came standard with 15" wheels in 86 (except the IROC-Z). Check the door placard and see what size wheel it specifies. If it's a 14" wheel, then it declares the car a sport coupe. The only Sport Coupe with a 15" wheel had the V8.
Chevrolet never made a V6 Z28.

With the IROC-Z being the ultimate Camaro during it's production, it would have been a waste of time and $$ to put a V6 in it. People already think the base LG4 was a waste in the IROC-Z, could you imagine a race inspired Camaro sporting a V6?

There is no way that it is a Z28 with a V6 from GM.
Someone either put a V6 into a Z28 after they fried the original V8, or they made an SC look like a Z28.
The VINand RPO's will tell all.
