One of my college neighbors gave me that very same calender. There's some beautiful 1st gens in there, but I was disapointed that there were no 3rd gens (although I didn't assume there would be). I'll agree with those that have said that it'll only take time before the 3rd gen gets the respect it deserves. It's just not old enough to be collectable, and not new enough to keep up with the new styles.

I have the 2002 and 2003 (yes and the stupid dumb no 3rd gen 2004) Camaro calendars. The 02 and 03 ones have a few 3rd gens, like an 89 Iroc and a 92 Heritage... but mostly 1st gens.
I have that blown Camaro Hot Wheels, in package! It's a teal color with sidepipes and a huge motor sticking out of the hood!

It's in the middle row, 5th one up from the bottom.

There were some great performers in the 1st and 2nd gens as well but they don't handle as good or stop as well as the 4th gens do.In a few years I hope to pick up an LS1 F body for cheap, ultimately I would like to keep my third gen in good shape and beat on the 4th(because they are so much fun to drive right out of the box). I think thats why they garner so much attention in the novelty world. Perhaps as time goes on and all of the delapetated 3rd gens finally go to the bone yard the3rd generation will get its respect from model makers and paraphenalia manufacturers.Thats my take on it anyway.......

I understand the first is a classic muscle car but the third gen, that's American muscle! Is it just me or does anyone else think that the fourth gen only gets the attention it does becuase it was the endding of the camaro?

The GM released Firebird one isn't much better...only one 3rd, a '91 GTA. I'm a 4th gen owner, and even I'm pissed!

I was going through my old matchbox cars and found 2 second gen firebirds, 2 third gen firebirds, 1 third gen trans am, 1 third gen camaro, and 1 fourth gen corvette. They're all made by yatming so i'd suggest looking around on ebay for yatming if you're looking for models of our cars... i think you can even get 1/18th scale models by the same company.

The camaro in an icon. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and hopefully 5th generation camaros have been great performers in their time. It's a sad day when I see more performance parts for the PT Crusier than the 3rd generation camaro.

I once saw a shirt that had just the bird and the TRANS AM underneath in third gen style, but I can't find it again.

ive lived in vegas for 6 years an i have seen some nice 3rdgens theres 3 on my grandpas block my 88 a 25th an a iroc. i do think are cars will go up in popularity thats why im keeping mine stock and orignal to the best i can. its funny the white trash thing ...well not really...id like to know how that got started. my opinion the 3rdgens are the sharpest looking out of all the fbodys, but like stated early not old enough to be considerd classics too old to be new style. im not a patient peron to wait b4 we get respect but its all u can do....just plz represent the 3rd gens with som dignity an respect

This is true. No F-Body ever handled better than Thirds, specifically IROC-Z's. Since then there has been none that have hit .92 G's or that have put out .9's on the skidpad year after year as they did. Thirds have been leading F-Stock for a long time. I might also say that 4ths don't have the feel of useable lower RPM street TQ that L98s make also.
Third Gens are still popular cars and they will continue to be (even moreso) as collectibility increases. More stuff will just keep coming out for them, it's they way it always happens in time with cars like this. (especially for cars that were so sought after when new and bought like crazy)

I will always love third gens.
They actaully had to be creative w/ the design since the emissions crap.
and because of that I think we own teh sweetest looking gen so far.

Like I said in another thread, I just want to get some respect from other enthusiats. There is virtualy zero love from the 4th gen community for the third gen. I guess it makes me want to make my car better. I just dont like how when people do a lot of work to there third gen and really make it sweet looking, only to get laughed at by other car groups because they think that the car is a big POS. Its lighter, lower, and better looking then a 4th gen. The 4th gen looks very bloated and over weight. And for a car that is made up of mostly glass and plastic, its still heavier then the all steel third gens. They are larger, yet half the motor is under the windshield. You cant do a tune up to the car without an ASE cert. and tuning the cars are a lot harder and more $$$ then burning a prom, or turning a screw. Parts are cheaper, cars are more plentiful, and with some hard work, blood, sweat and tears, you can get a car like some of them on here. There are so many really nice third gens that are on here, or have been on TGO that anyone wanting a target to do a great car should look at these examples of how you can make a great car better. I love my third gen, and loved it since my dad got it new in 87.

I just picked up a GMHTP (hard to find around here so its probably a little old, import rags all over tho), and one of the articles was an LT1 into third gen swap (sidenote: TGO was mentioned a few times in the article). His reason for picking a third gen? Because it would be no big deal if he wrecked it on the track. Wreck it, buy a new one and swap the parts.
Maybe this is why the third gen gets no respect, even in such publications, its seen as expenable.

When i first became involved in the American car scene about 5 years ago (aged 20) you could pick up second gen Camaro's and Trans Am's for around £750 - £1000
now even rough ones fetch about 3 or 4 times that (if you can find them) and there is actualy waiting lists for second gen T/A's with nice (not perfect) examples fetching 6 - 7K (about $12 000)
5 years ago, the cheap second gens were everywhere, now they are quite rare (and definately not cheap)
Thirdgens are undergoing a quick price rise over here, i had the dealer i bought my car off for $3000 offer me $4000 back for it a year later.
I know things are a little different here, because there are less cars to choose from, but the same thing will happen in the US in due time.

Does anyone have and ideas on why we tend to be the forgetten gen? Sadly we tend to be associated with white trash but still, these are tough looking cars. I'm also surprised that more movies/tv don't pick up on the third gen. The T/As (I think) have knight rider but what about the camaros? Don't we get any recognition?

Thirdgens will always be my favorite camaro. Ever since my brother got out of the marines in 92 and he showed up with his 91 teal camaro, I fell in love with the thirdgens. Im not a big fan of the firebirds or trans ams, but the camaros are great. Best design ever, has a nice aggressive look, plenty of hood room (I hated changing plugs in my brother-in-laws 95 camaro, what the hell was gm thinking), very aerodynamic.
It just looks sexy, especially with painted headlight pockets and the z28 high rise spoiler. IMO, the fourthgens are ugly, all except the new trans ams, only good looking fourthgen. Anyways, im done ranting. Thirdgen camaro is one of the best looking cars out there, nuff said.

I know the guy (Mark Thatcher) who owns/operates The Motor Company, which was linked earlier in this thread with a third gen t-shirt. Mark will respond to demand and if the demand warrants more third gen shirts, he will produce them. If you don't buy the shirt he is selling because it isn't the exact year of your car or it isn't the right color, your options are never likely to expand beyond substandard t-shirts with iron-on pictures that fade after a few washings. Looking at The Motor Company's other shirts, you'd think he has plenty featuring GTOs, but he's actually creating new ones because he knows the GTO guys will buy them.

It took a long time for the 1st gen to get any respect.. it took around 25 years or so before collectors and restorers started picking them up, and the early 2nd gen cars came a little after that. Only now are the late 2nd gens getting any respect at all because they are starting to gain 'classic' status... I think the same will happen with the 3rdgen once a few hit 25 years old... that seems to be the age when old cars become cool again. It wasn't untill the late '80s that the real muscle cars, like 1st gen f-bodies, mopars, mustangs, etc etc... became cool again and worth some money and status. The same will happen with the 3rdgen once it passes the 25 year old mark, and the early ones are getting pretty close now (my 83 is 21 years old)

I had a big model(1/8 scale, about 2' long) of a 1982 Z28. I don't remember, but it was probably the pace car. However, I painted it black and silver like my '83 HO. I think mom tossed it out when they moved a few years ago.
And I'm pretty sure I remember a 1/24 scale model of the '87 Formula, but I never bought that. My modeling days were over, lol. But now I want it!
