89 IROC-Z 'vert vs. 91 RS 5.0

My friend always liked Camaros. He has owned two - a base model 94 and a 96 'vert with the 3400 in it. He since had to sell them and is borrowing my old beater GP. He has two options available to him now - a 1989 IROC-Z convertible for $4500 or a 91 RS with the 305 in it, for a mere $2500. I know which one I'd pick, but it isn't my money, and he's dead set on getting the IROC, provided he can talk the guy down. My question - which car is the better deal and does anyone know who's cars these are (hint: they're both in hawaii... anyone, anyone?) Oh, and once I get my GP back, it's going to get traded for a replacement aerofin for my GTA...

the verts look better, but i'd go with the RS (is it hardtop or ttops?). convertibles are just too much hassle sometimes.

Get the VERT!!!!!!

The verts look better. They get a lot of attention just because they are so rare. As long as you keep a good top and good weatherstripping on the convertible is really not much more trouble than a hardtop. I have a friend with a T-Top car who wishes he had a convertible top because with the vert all you have to do is fold the top down and forget about it. With T-Tops he has to secure them and protect them from scratching and breakage.

About two weeks ago I took my girlfriend to the mountains. The days were warm but the nights were cool. The leaves had changed color and there was color everywhere. It was way too cool driving in the mountains in a car that had enough torque and handling to really make it fun. The fun was doubled by having the top down. V-8 power in a droptop - you can't get that just anywhere...

My answer: Absolutely, GET THE VERT!!!!!

Ah, he decided to pony up for a 94 base-model t-top Camaro... The RS had some significant mods done to it, from what he told me - wish I had seen it. The IROC was sold just after he inquired about it - I guess someone really wanted to pay over bluebook for it, must have been a nice car to fatch that price, I guess. So, he want's to cruise with me in his new toy. I gotta see this - he only paid 200 bucks and a new computer for it....!

Man... I wish the guy had seen this ad before he bought the 94... '84 Trans Am, only 1400 bucks, 350 tossed in it, some other speed goodies, black... Wish I had the parking space to get it... But the ad ran only two days or so. I saw the car he's getting... Sheesh. The thing has some definite needs. What's it mean when the spark plug wire is jumping around and you can feel it pulsating when you grab it? It looks to me like the vibration is coming from the plug (or something near the plug, traveling up the wire) but other than that (oh yeah, dull red paint with white basecoat peeking out EVERWHERE, BIG dent aft of the passenger door, cracked turn signal lens, no A/C, and all the power window/lock witches are screwed up..) it's a good car. I wouldn't have gotten it, as I'm a third-genner myself, but that's me.

And I was hoping he was gonna get a third-gen so we could have fun convoying places together... Bummer.
