I read somewhere a long time ago about the red leather -- that GM had a problem with the color dye used back in 87/88. It was produced in 1987, but only a handful were made in 1988 before it was put on hold. I'm not sure when the problem was resolved and it came back. I know it was used in 1992. I wonder if red leather was available in 89, 90, or 91... Does anyone have this?

I have red leather in my 91, its a non power seat, and I was told most leather seats got a power option?

The Camaro White Book lists Red leather as being available in 87, 89-92. 88 is the only year that has no interior code for red leather.

hehe I know I was just givin ya a hard time. Im pretty sure that car I was talking about was a 1 of 1 or 2 produced due to the options and the rarity of leather (esp red) in 92, but the thought to sell it had never crossed their mind thats for sure...Id def like to have it tho!

I have a Red leather interior on my 91 RS. It's in great condition, except for a little rip on the drivers side seat. How can I check to see if it was origional?

 

I may have red leather seats tomorrow if I buy the 91 Z28! There is just something about a black car with red leather interior.

My car has the red leather interior.....it was one of the reasons that I bought it. The gray cloth really turns me off.

The top of my back seats (split) are cracking, which is the downside to leather as i have not been able to find anyone or anyplace that sells the seat covers to replace them.

No power seats either. I used the RPO decoder.....very sweet!

I've got red leather 1987 Seats that are original. Cloth back, power. The headrest on them have SHRUNK and look ugly. The leather didn't seem well cared for. But it lasted long and good and I seem to be bringing it back to decent shape.

 

my old roomates 87 iroc vert had a red interior.. i THINK it was leather, not positive...

can i ask why you want to know? any specific questions you want me to ask her?

 

My brother's father in law has a 90 iroc (he's the original owner) red with red leather interior, and it only has like 40,000 miles on it. 350TPI, auto, hardtop.
During the summer he usually drives his 55 chevy.

 

My 91z28 is black with red leather, and drivers seat is power:lala: Look awesome and in perfect shape, i would post a pic but i cant get the attachment's to work

 

So far no ones come up with an 88 with red leather, my guess is they don't exist.

Looks like I'll have to chime in here. My co-worker's got an '88 'roc with red leather seats. I guess these really are hard to find since I have never seen anything like them before and I never realized they could be stock. But I'll make sure to check his RPO'S later today when I go to work to see if they're original. Anyone know what the RPO for these seats is, that way I could just look for the one?

Probably 722, that is what it was in 87. The camaro white book states that few if any 88's were built with red leather, so it is possible.
