Literature

I was just curious as to what literature other owners have regarding the history of F-Bodies - in general, Third Gen specific or even specific to their car.

In my library so far:

Standard Catalog of Firebird: 1967-2002; Some good descriptions and production numbers.
Original 1990 Pontiac sales brochure
Original owners manual

Include descriptions of anything other than owners manuals, shop manuals.

I'd like to expand a little if I hear of some good stuff. Especially anyone who has the kit from PHS, I'd like to know what's there.

We also have Firebird by the numbers 1967 to 1993 But we no longer own a firebird. Just 3 Camaros.

I have a 1983 Trans Am with the following manuals:
Chilton 80-87 American and Canadian all models (own several early eights GM vehicles)
Haynes Firebird 82-92
Chilton 82-85 Firebird
Rochester Carbs (how to rebuild, select and calibrate)
How to rebuild your small block
10-15 various resto catalogs for both third and second gen Firebirds

Documentation on the car are all original from when the car was new:
Firestone tire mantenance & warranty manual
Delco 2000 Series ETR Sound Systems (radio)
Owners manual
Build sheet
Transfer of tags from old car to 83 T/A from 1983
Original Window sticker (2 sticker car)
Little sticker from dealership with undercoating, rust proofing etc. that includes the charge for the installation of the screamin chicken that was put on
Agreement schedule on for the warranty
Dealership order form for the trade and new car
Misc. registrations and inspection receipts for most years
Scheduled maintenance guide
Uniroyal tire warranty (tires the car had on it when it was new)
Installation instructions for window louvers from 1983
New car warranty information for 1983
The key ring with the original punch outs from when it was new.

I haven't yet ordered the PHS documentation but plan on it in the near future.

The reason I have so much documentation is my father was the original owner and saved everything he could in the rear hatch compartment, unfortunately the car leaked and some of it was damaged but still readable.

Well I have collected all the 82 - 92 sales brochures for both the Camaro's and Firebirds. Plus I hunted down the owners manual for my camaro, and a GM book on fixing leaks on t-tops.. I also have the Shop manual for my 89 camaro. Plus we still have the shop manual for my dad's 82 Camaro. Oh ya, and the Camaro WHite Book.. I also managed to tape back to gether one of the build sheets for my car.. (whats left of it anyways).. And slightly off topic but we also have this book. (picture below).. it covers "Blue printing for top performance, Chev 60 deg. V-6, 90 deg. V-6, small block V8, Mark IV Large block, twin cam cosworth vega, corvette, vehicle dynamics, and general information. It's a cool book, if I ever decide to mod an engine.

Oh man, that sucks. I had the same problem with my 88 and now I keep nothing in that locking ocmpartment except for a gas can and my Chilton's (Factory service manual stays in the house.)

Fact Electronics, I found my build sheet in the car too, and its in terrible shape as well; however I won't complain as the original owner thought to leave it in there.

Car: 88 TBI Formula, 98 LS1 TA, 77 400 T
I got the PHS documentation for my 88 formula. You get a photo of a car similar to yours (same year, same model) from the pontiac archives, the order form where the original dealer order the car, various press releases from that year, and the general engineering specs. All in all pretty handy if you lost the spid sticker and would like to know options. A reproduction window sticker is available, but you have to get the PHS documentation before or with the window sticker. You can't get just the window sticker. Probably because the window sticker people can't do the research necessary to get the proper info for the car.

All in all a pretty nice petigree for your car.

1-5 stars: 5 being the highest

*** Firebird ID Numbers 1967-93 - ??? - Good Technical Information Paint Chips cloth texture pix

**** Standard Catalog of Firebird 1967-2002 - Gunnell - I like this one for tech info, pretty well laid out, it has some mis-information but good overall, also has some production numbers for engines, t-tops etc.

**** How to Tune and Modify your Camaro 1982-1998 - Scott -Good info on performance mods

**** Standard Catalog of Camaro 1967-2002 - Gunnell - I assume its similar to the Firebird book by the same name, not looked at it too much.

**** Pontiac Firebird (My car is in this one) - MarK Cranswick - Again I like this one, it has alot of history, not much on the tech side, but it is pretty accurate, matter of fact he pulls from other cars like th Fiero to show how the firebird evolved.

***Muscle Car History Firebird and Trans AM - Holder & Kunz - Lots of pictures, a little history

***Fuel Injection Installation Performance Testing, Modification - Hartman - Lots of how to stuff

*** HOT ROD Pontiac Firebird, Trans AM and GTO - Cartech - All Hot Rod Magazine articles

*** Camaro Performance Bolt on Guide - John Smith - Cartech
Firebird and Trans Am - Holder & Kunz - Gives some comparisons to bolt on parts, like compares one head to another for flow etc...

*** Illustrated Buyers Guide - John A. Gunnell - I like it and I dont, on one page he states that the cars made from 87-92 were of higher quality, but the desirability is lower for those cars, kind of contradictive IE, the 86 base coupe gets 2 stars, but the 87 GTA gets 1 or 2 stars.... HUH???? I think only on a year to year basis can you count on his ratings, IE, you cant compare 86 to 87 cars

***Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 1969-1999 Photo Album - George Scala -B&W Pictures with some illustrations

****Pontiac Firebird 1967 - 2000 Photo History George W. Scala - B&W pictures, but has more history

*** Camaro & Firebird Performance Handbook - Sessler - Older publication, but has good info on how to modify the TPI, also covers Carb, and TBI slightly.

**** Pontiac Firebird '82 thru '92 - Haynes - Good book for a shade tree mechanic, most basic things are covered.

1984-1991 Port Fuel Injection - GM - darned near useless

Parts and Illustration Catalogs - GM - I would be lost without it...

1987 Firebird Service Manual - GM
Dealer Invoices for both cars - GM
Build Sheet - one car so far

*** Standard Catalog of American Cars 1976-1999 Flammang Kowalke - lots of good info, packed into a book with other cars, can find almost everything in other publications tho.

GM Production Options - Feb 1997

That book by Mark Cranswick had some really serious errors in it.

Alhtough I did notice alot of people from this board have their cars in it

Overall I was disapointed by the book. The errors are too many and reflect badly upon the author and his poor research.

Giving an example:

He states that in 86 you could get the LB9 with a 5 speed---WRONG! It was 87 and rated at 205hp. There never was a 190hp TPI 5 speed as he implies.

Then he lists the 88 LO3 at 150 hp--when it was 170.

He alos lumps the 400s from 74/75 together as "meeK"

My 74 Formula 400 has 225hp a 75 400 would have 185hp.
Big difference.

He also claims the 75 Trans Am was capable of high cornering forces and lament s the loss of a baffled oil pan.

THe car would have handled like a pig in stock form. Tall 225/70/15 tires and comfort tuned suspension.

The list goes on........

There are some nice pics but too many modified cars.

Magazines that had pics of my car

Since I got my car I have been collecting anything and everything I can get my hands on related to the '91 Z-28......

Besides the obvious Chilton and Haynes manuals, I have...

1991 Chevrolet Camaro Factory Service Manual
The entire 1991 Chevrolet Trading Card Set
Owners Manual w/ Tape, plastic key (uncut) and warranty info
1991 Camaro Special Service Brochure (aka, the B4C Option Book)
1991 Chevrolet Sales Brochure (19 pages)
1991 Chevrolet Full Line Sales Book (104 pages)
1991 Camaro Sales Brochure (23 pages)
1991 Chevrolet Pass Car Exterior Color Pamphlet (paint chip guide)
1991 Chevrolet Press Packet

And this morning in the mail I got my Original Factory Sales Invoice for the car, courtesy of Peggy in the Media department at GM.

I am interested in getting the...
1991 accesories catalog
louver install guide (mine was opted with them from factory)
Build sheet for my car (need to look for it)
Original dealership sales reciept for car
Window sticker

Plus, I know the only 2 previous owners of my car, so It's history is pretty easy.

Seems pretty high..... I've bought several of them for my car for pretty cheap. Depends on the condition tho. If it is like new, that's not too bad IMO.

I'd like to see what else is out there for my car. I have a lot of the literature, but I want it ALL

Anyone know of anything I haven't listed? If so, what is it and anyone have any extras layin around?

I can scan the louver documents for you and save them as a .pdf so you can print them out. They are original, but they are photocopied from the factory, so they are not the cleanest to begin with. I was surprised they weren't original documents. I have the doco for the 91 louvers.
