ok well i brought this up before asking if this was rare or just a add on, all of you mainly said a add on, my dealer said its rare, well i just checked al the rpo codes and one was D88 : DECAL, STRIPE, SPORT
1PV : PAINT SCHEME, 21

so they had to make it, so im confused, is it rare, anyone know? what do you think this means?

RPO D88 refers to the original striping found on 1987 Z28's, with and without the IROC-Z option. I'm not exactly sure what 1PV is, but I know this code is on every 1987 Z28 (without IROC-Z option) I've owned.

I hope you're not asking whether your paint is original because your 1987 Z28 never looked like that when it was new. Depending on exterior color, the ground effects and wheels were either silver, gold or charcoal, accented with a four-color stripe just above the rocker panels. No other striping (including pinstriping) was available.

hmm.. well i know my paint is not original, but its been painted over the original, that is why its not too good of a paint job, but u can tell the stripe was there original because of peelin and its rough from the old paint,

 

this package had to come on some camaros because its painted on, not just a sticket, and it was bought like this from the dealer, previous owner has pic right out of dealer, i will post that later on

 

The original factory striping is not painted. It's vinyl tape made by 3M.

I can't tell from a pic. Take it to any body shop and they'll be able to tell you.

I have found that the worst place to go for information on originality is a dealership. They don't care about this topic and it's not very often you'll find someone who works there that was there 15-20 years ago, much less know about one car line.

No, an '87 Z28 coupe is not rare in itself. Even if it were, you will not be able to find original striping for it. It is the only year that no one reproduces the Z28 stripes... at least not yet.
