MY 84 ZF INVOICE ARRIVED
JUST GOT MY COPY OF ORIGINAL INVOICE FOR MY 84 ZF COUPE....CLEARLY STATES IN OPTIONS COLUMN....SHIP TO AMERICAN SUNROOF CO. FOR SUNROOF CONVERSION AND APPEARANCE PACKAGE.....SO WOULD THIS BE "ORIGINAL" OR DEALER ADD ON???? I CANT REALLY SEE HOW IT CAN BE DEALER ADD-ON I FIT WAS ADDED ON BEFORE IT REACHED THE DEALER....I CAN PROVIDE COPY OF INVOIVCE AS PROOF IF NEED BE......AGAIN I SAY THAT THIS BY NO MEANS MAKES THESE CARS WORTH ANYTHING,,BUT CORRECT IS CORRECT.....

That just means the dealer ordered the car with the specific options they desired for the package and had the car shipped to ASC instead of the dealer. The conversion was still done aftermarket. It's cheaper to convert many cars at 1 time, so the dealers probably ordered a couple at a time and required shippment to ASC to complete the conversion on a bunch at a time. Shipping would also be cheaper. There are no rpo codes or VIN designations for the ZF option from the factory. Just an invoice stating where to deliver the car.

This is what ZF had.
1. Black Stripes all down the hood and along the lower sides...they were ugly
2. ZF Emblems attached where the "Camaro" emblems would have been
3. REAL wood dash and console trim (not fake as someone mentioned)
4. Sunroof
5. My car had a Grant GT wood steering wheel but this was probably installed by the previous owner
I still have one of the ZF emblems I took off my car as a keepsake of my first car. I didn't buy mine because of the ZF stuff but I thought it was pretty cool. That dash emblem looked decent and the quality an appearance of the emblems was consistent with GMs stuff. I didn't really like the woodgrain, though. What 16 year old wants wood grain on their car?!
I only have one picture of my car before I de-ZF'd it and converted it to the appearance of a 89-90 RS (ground effects, wheels, bumpers)...I'll see if I can dig it up and scan it.
To the guy running 0-60 in 11.4 seconds. I believe it. That car was a dog! I think mine was more like 13 seconds, though...seriously.

I was at a junkyard on Saturday and came across a white ZF. It didn't have the stripes (looks like it was repainted), the dash was gone (I did get the wood piece with the emblem outline). However, the console was not covered in wood. Also the gauge cluster had a different wood grain pattern. It did have the sunroof.

Re: 1984 ZF Camaro emblem... wtf?
The original owner of 1984 Camaro Sport coupe from whom I bought my car says the dealer told him Z was a code, meaning the car could be equipped with an additional preformance package. (not appearence package)ZF means the car was equiped with a sunroof. Z28 pretained to motor preformance. I was told by one gm dealer that only the Z28 had duel exhaust, but after finding this out, I learned mine is a Sport C,and is also equipped with dual. This is important to know if you are shopping for parts.

Dealer Sales people rarely have a clue what they are talking about. There was no factory sunroof option, so stating that ZF was for that option is wrong.

Re: 1984 ZF Camaro emblem... wtf?
I've never heard of a ZF down south here so I would bet it's regional. Everyone who has seen em is relatively close to each other. It's nice to see something new but if it's just appearance.
The heritage edition coulda shoulda woulda been 1BADMFR. Hmm now if GM would have made em and I could talk the DMV into letting me have that on my plates. LMAO
See that's what pisses me off about chevrolet. Should have made that car production instead of a waste of time lil anniversary badge on every single car and oh yeah you could get stripes. WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO. They will spend all the resources in the world on the vette but give the f body's the cold shoulder. Let's face it, crossfire, tpi, ls1's were all designed for the vette and carried over to fbody's. And they wonder why people quit buying them, well that and camaro's at least had gotten so ugly. It's just frustrating at the potential all these cars have and they gave em sqaut.
What's the deal with appearances anyway? 9 guys out of 10 would rather have 300hp, well handling, rough riding beast in primer than a 170hp grandma's volvo is out pulling you up hill but I have stripes and a nifty little badge over here. geez , I'm done venting ban me if you want.

Re: 1984 ZF Camaro emblem... wtf?
Wow, this thread DEFINITELY has some age on it, but good information. 1) I did not know there was a ZF "package" and 2) I found this because I was searching for information about "factory" installed ZF 6-speeds on any thirdgens
If your search is pertaining to 6-speed thirdgen cars, here are some more recent links of information:
http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/in...on=Custom&ID=8
http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...ure/index.html
http://www.autoblog.com/2005/02/16/t...bird-firehawk/
Summary: There were no "factory" ZF 6-speed thirdgens... although the Firehawk had them, like someone said earlier, they only made about 25.... so I'm not sure how much you would say that is a factory/production item....

Re: 1984 ZF Camaro emblem... wtf?
lets not forget the 2 or so 25th anniversary factory "test cars" that were built and then dropped.
One of them still survives today, cruising around with a GMPP crew to car and industry shows, with a ram jet engine in it and a yellow paint job. Featured on the cover of Car Craft a few years ago. It is my dream car.
It has all sorts of one off parts that were almost put into production as well as some parts you can't get anymore, like the factory GMPP dana 44 rear end, or the ASM full length under car special fit headers and matching oil pan.
edit: Also here is a GMHTP magazine article:
http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...ure/index.html
looks like it has a stock rear again and they probably got rid of the headers and oil pan because it says "it got custom headers with the install of the ram-jet" or maybe they writter is mistaking the ASM long tubes for being installed recently.

Re: 1984 ZF Camaro emblem... wtf?
Read my previous post. It has nothing to do with a ZF 6-speed. GM never put a 6-speed in a production 3rd gen.
As far as I can tell the ZF pkg was an appearance package that was dealer installed on sport coupes. The main feature was fake woodgrain panels glued on to the dash.

I'd be interested in seeing that pic. Also any interior pics.

I don't think there are any color combos or options that COULDN'T be on a ZF. If someone wanted a Chevette with it the dealer would probably have whipped it up! Anything to sell cars haha
