formula??

My buddy just bought a car. Its claimed to be a formula and it does look like one. I ran the VIN on the site though and it came up as a Firebird.

The vin: 1G2FS21F7KLXXXXXX

Now another friend has a formula and his vin has a W where the S is.

What is it?

Thanks,

Matt

Car: 1984 Trans Am

Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 3.23
The newer car is a 1989 Formula w/ a 305 TPI.

The other "Formula"...is a TransAm according to the W located as the fifth digit in the Vin #.

Fifth Digit: S= Firebird and Formula
W= TransAm and GTA.

Thanks!

So its actually my other friend who's vin dont match the car. His car looks like a formula and has the formula hood and lettering, but the vin is w. Huh, he'll be happy to know he has a TA like me.

Thanks,

Matt

The one that looks like a formula is a '88.
The real formula that my buddy just bought is a '89.

No pics. I don't own a digital camera. When I'm back in town I'll try to borrow one and snap some pics. I am going back to Kalamazoo(student at WMU) today. I don't know when I'll get back in town(Detroit area) again, though I think I should be back in a couple weeks.

I dont get it either, maybe they wanted to get rid of the excess weight or something?
