84 Z28 HO convertible- worth buying?
Definitely a 'fixer-upper' driver. Bumper split, chips and dings, no rust, worn seats, cracked windshield, 130K on the clock, mostly original. Dark brown, gold trim, tan top, clean carfax- 2 owners.
I've been looking for an 83-84 Z car for several years, and not finding any under $7K that aren't rusted out and don't need every piece of sheet metal straightened or replaced.
He's asking $4000.
If this other car works out though, I won't bother with a project car- convertible or not.
If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll give you the guy's number.

sounds pretty sweet, the only problem is that the factory didn't start making convertibles until 1987 from ASC. The only way to have a convertible made prior to that year was to send it out to an aftermarket place. The only problem with this is that if something on that top breaks, you're going to have one hell of a time finding replacement for it. So just watch out for that

Seems a little high- considering you would have to put in some money for seats, bumper and paint. What condition is the engine in? Rebuilt or original? Was the convertible conversion done correctly? i.e. is the frame sagging, doors out of alignment. I probably wouldn't spend more than $1800-2200 considering the age and questionable convert conversion. But it does sound like a fun car for a poject!

After doing a little research, the custom converts aren't getting near the prices that the ASC/GM made ones are. I'm pretty sure this one was done correctly, and it does have the beefy subframe connectors so it doesn't appear to be bending in the middle. I think I am going to let him sit on it for awhile and see if he starts dropping the price. There is a red 85 2-seater vert on Ebay, and it had to be relisted after only getting up to $3450 and not meeting reserve. It's now up to about $5K.

That price tag is insane. For that price the interior and exterior should be near perfect. Many people on here have gotten near perfect cars for that price or less. I would find another.

Many people on here have bought 84 convertible Z28's? That's fascinating. (No offense)
I understand your point, and I am passing on it, but I have only seen one other 84 Z convert for sale in the past 5 years. Before that I wasn't paying attention. So if someone really really wants one, and he has the only for sale, he can ask whatever he wants.
He told me he won't drop below $4K, so I told him good luck.

well the reason not too many of us have bought 84 verts is because they weren't factory and often times the conversions were done wrong, thus allowing for ridiculous repairs in teh future. and like i said, its hard enough to find parts for an ASC vert (and yes i do own one) let alone a vert that has had a custom conversion.
like everyone says, the car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. for those of us in the know, that car isn't worth as much as the asking price. I paid a little over 4k for my 305 tpi vert which i consider to be a fairly good price so there ya go.
