To check just slide a small tube down it, if it keeps going then you don't have one and if it stops about an inch or three down then you have one.

Gas can also evaporate through open or cracked lines when the car is in direct sun, but thats a slooooooooow process.
Next time you fill up your car check under it to see if any gas is spilling out of the tank.

A locking gas cap is probably your best and safest bet. But as mentioned above, if there is a crack or a leak, it's just gonna keep coming out.

There is no anti-theft. You can shove a 5/8" hose right into the tank, it might get caught up on the tank where the filler is welded to the tank, but really its simple.

Locking gas caps just make it a pain in the *** to filler-up.

Some firebirds came stock with a locking gas door. Since I take my keys out of the ignition when shutting off the car anyway, I didn't find it to be at all inconvenient to unlock my gas door before pumping my gas, and when I was in high school, I was very glad to have that considering some of the morons I went to school with.
