1989 RAM AIR edition

This is not official, to my knowledge, but anyone remember this car on eBay?
I had a large file saved, and only now, the means to compress it smaller.
Anyway, post thoughts on this. I don't recall the details of it, sorry to say. I was searching for different custom looks, etc. Maybe not history/restore related, but it could have been PMD history
hehe

I see the ad for the hoods for third gens, so I should say this is not thought to be rare, but a custom touch. The engine was no slouch though

Actually, that is why the followup post, however, outside of engines, most F bodies these days (along with others) rarely see the custom touches that cars of the 70s did. I used to read Custom Rodder in 1980 and it was amazing the variety and detail of the many cars (& trucks), and still is. The cars were utterly amazing. I think the '89 looks good, but that's just me. The black parts tend to blend with the paint which I think takes away from the visuals. Few non factory spoilers I've seen on the road.
Usually if I see something striking on the road, I rubber neck
This is far and few between these days!

What you have there appears to be a Standard FORMULA, (I can tell by the wing, unless it has been changed) With a "Ram Air" Hood, and 4th Gen "Ram Air" Decals. The Ground FX are avaialble through Classic Industries.

The Wheels appear to be a stock T/A Black Wheels availble from 88-92...

.. The engine has been modified for performance, but can't recall the detail. The body was left largely stock. I realized it's not heart stopping, but I was searching for interesting Firebird build ups and it seems to me people must be quite happy with it's factory looks. You don't see the dressing that people put on import Japanese cars

Back in the day, besides wheels, you'd chose between tinted windows and/or louvers...maybe glass pack/s
hehe

Yea... I was looking at my dad's old PHR magazines, and I agree aabout how the '70s cars got more 'custom touches' than the newer ones do.

In there, there was a '79 Z28 that had a Porsche 911 Turbo-style whale tail spoiler!!

Hows THAT for custom?

Well, that's fine too, but I've always had a soft spot for custom cars. Anyway, I took another shot of my car, resized it and cropped it and it's STILL too big. Wish you could go over 100kb ....just a bit!

hehe

I'm in my thirties but I couldn't agree more. There are far too few custom cars around these days. Must be the money crunch...just don't know. The options are still plentiful I think

I think the Japanese changing the way cars were built and perceived also changed the landscape, not to mention stricter environmental standards.
The custom cars I remember making print SURE didn't look cheap to me though.
I was thinking this thread probably wouldn't exist if I'd thought about it. It's not really cool enough, but I've enjoyed you guys (and gals) showing off your rides here and telling your stories!

ADDENDUM:

I should add, when I keep looking at the cars (I draw freehand sketches from time to time) I think the F-cars really are unique in GM's stable and also in the car world. All generations of them. They can't expect to replace a classic line with an all new one, even though that's the way things go.

An end of an era

I've always been slightly more into the blower and bugcatchers thru the hood!

I like the looks of a blower or a bug catcher through the hood, but there is something about having a car that looks stock but is faster than fast

The intimidation factor on a fully blown motor is there and the 'sleeper' may just get passed by, unless you make it known

John says Classic Industries but I haven't researched it. I'm interested in visuals like that as well. Just too many stock platforms around. As I mention above, I recall fender flares and spoilers, rear air foils...all prominent in the custom car world of past eras. Now you only see that on foreign jobs.
I will say I've seen alot of rolling preserved classics lately... warms my heart!
Old metal is still good metal!
