Tire Wheelwell Scraping

I am running 245 50ZR16 Goodyear Eagle HP Ultra Plus tires now my prob is when I back up and turn left to a certain degree the tires will rub inside the wheelwell now I dont know why because these are the correct size tires. Any ideas on why or how to fix this? Sorry for posting in here didnt know where else to.

This is typical. Don't over steer and it won't happen. I think mine touches at full steer also. Have you checked for correct placement and installation of the inner wheel well?

Tires of the same size, do vary in actual size from brand to brand. Also, brand new quite a few 3rd gens rubbed when turning hard. Usually made worse when the owner swapped tires to another brand that was slightly wider in actual width. The good part is that you aren't hurting the tire--unless you are driving in constant circles with it rubbing.

Also, Full alignments are different from car to car. Two identical IROCs may have very different settings for Caster, Camber, and Toe to align the vehicle.

If the Caster is set to the rear, the tire can rub then.

When my '85 Iroc had a blow out and took me over two curbs, things were so out of whack and un fixable, they had to set the Caster rearward as far as it would go. Thus I had to get 225/50/R16 tires so that I wouldn't literally peel the wheel well cover off.

My Roc tires also scrape on hard turns. I guess age might have something to do with it or not. I didnt have the car since brand new so i dont know if it did it from the beginning.

Words of wisdom...

Don't back up quickly with the steering cranked. I ripped a chunk out of the passengers side fender liner. Replacements (if they're available) are about $60 each side.

Keep an eye on where the tires are rubbing, if its frequent enough, the tires can rub thru the plastic, again costing you $60+ to replace them.

My red '88 GTA has rubbed since the day I bought it new, regardless of tire brand. It rubbed with the Eagle VR50s, it rubbed with Firehawk SZs, and it still rubs now with Firehawk SZ50s.... all in 245/50-16 size.

My black '88 Notchback rubs too.... with 245/50-16 Goodyear Eagle GT+4s on it.

LOL.

I wonder why some people have this and some don't?? Didn't the cars with 245's have something to help this??

Yes, a different steering box that didn't allow the wheel to turn as far. That helped, but some still rubbed.

The different steering box, noted by the letter "Z" on top of the box, was put into place to stop 16" wheels from rubbing on the sway bar.

Not to fix the Tire rubbing the fender on all cars.

Z boxes came only on Cars with factory 16x8 wheels.

My Formula rubs a little, and it has the factory steering box, the 245's are a little wide... My solution may be to take out the inner fender liner and heat it up with a heat gun while trying to re-shape those sections where they rub. I have not looked at the attaching points to actually see if I can mold them or not.
