85-87 Z28 & 89-90 RS Question

Ok, as you may have noticed I am doing t-shirts for the site I need to know some info.

1) Was the 85-87 Z28 available without driving lights
2) Was the 88 camaro/89-90 RS Available WITH driving lights
3) Were the (sticker) stripes from 85-87 Z28 all the same
4) Did the 89-90 RS & 88 Camaro Use the same stripe as the IROC?
5) IF you got a camaro w/o driving lights, but WITH Ground FX did it have this grill?
6) What years/models got the BLACK headlight inserts?

thanks

John

Re: 85-87 Z28 & 89-90 RS Question

1) Was the 85-87 Z28 available without driving lights?

They were not standard equipment on 1985 - 1987 Z28's. They were optional on some years:
1985 Z28: Not an option.
1986 Z28: Optional for $60.
1987 Z28: Optional but only in the 1SC option package (the most expensive).

2) Was the 88 camaro/89-90 RS Available WITH driving lights?

Never. The lamps were never an option on RS's.

3) Were the (sticker) stripes from 85-87 Z28 all the same?

No. Only 1985 & 1986 were identical. The 1987 striping was a one-year only. See pics below.

4) Did the 89-90 RS & 88 Camaro Use the same stripe as the IROC?

RS's never had any factory striping at all. The 1988 Sport Coupe came with the 1985 - 1987 IROC-Z striping.

5) IF you got a camaro w/o driving lights, but WITH Ground FX did it have this grill?

Same grill as all RS's.

6) What years/models got the BLACK headlight inserts?

All Z28's and IROC-Z's. On the RS, this is the only question I cannot answer with certainty. The 1987 RS did have black headlamp pockets. I do not know for the remaining years, therefore I will not speculate.

Did I score a 95?

Indeed, no RS had black pockets...my RS now has one pocket, the victim of a tree Never should have sold it to that schmuck...

How many others on here have uttered those same words???

Mine is a 92 RS and I have factory Black pockets. It was a Heritage package deal. So "Yes" some RS's had black pockets. But only in 92.

Yes, the only RS to get the black headlamp pockets was the '92 Heritage package aka Z03.

One last question,

Did the color of the ground effects on the RS determine the same color for the wheels. IE, Red GFX, got Red Wheels???

No. They are 16-inch IROC-Z wheels with a modification to the center cap -- removing the "IROC-Z" lettering and substituting "Z28". The originals are 15-inchers as shown on the yellow Z28. Mine are boxed and in storage. I just like the IROC-Z wheels better. Since that pic was taken, I've had the wheels polished (relief areas only).

No problem. I just wish I had a pic of my convertible with the original wheels. I could take the time to bolt them on, but there's one problem. I don't have tires!!

Good pictures are so hard to find...

Agreed. Are you putting together a collection?

Uh, oops...my third gen trivia is getting rusty...I knew that!!!

okfoz,

AFAIK, '91-'92 RSs (and maybe '90s as well...someone help?) had wheels co-ordinated to the body if the car was red, black, bright teal or white...I don't think any other colors such as Medium Blue or Grey qualified for matched wheels. If they did, I haven't seen them!

John,

I don't know a whole lot about RS's but I will state what I know to be fact -- no guessing. All RS's were uni-colored. Never was an RS with accenting color ground effects -- they were all body color. Some colors had optional wheel colors. Two examples: A red 1992 RS came with red accented wheels. Silver wheels could be ordered though. A white 1992 RS came with white accented wheels. Silver could be ordered here too. The earlier RS's (late '80s), silver (some call it gray) was the only wheel color.
