police camaros/firebirds
i searched for some pics of police camaros and firebirds, but all the threads were too old and just showed red Xs.
the reason i wanted them is that a friend didn't believe that police used firebirds. i said i've seen one before, he said no. i have $20 riding on this. so i'd like pics of police firebirds, but a ton of police camaros would make him look dumb too
so give me all you can

Hey, I got pulled over by a camaro cop racing my friend's Firebird. It was pretty cool, (not really ), a camaro and firebird pulled over by another camaro. It was a fourthgen camaro though, so maybe it doesn't hold enough water for your bet if it's only regarding thirdgens. BUT, there are definitely police camaro/firebirds out there.

I don't know of any police Firebirds, wouldn't make any sense to buy one of those instead of a Camaro, since they're heavier, slower, and more expensive.... but who knows, maybe some police dept out there somewhere bought one and used it that way. I've never heard of a police option package for Firebirds like the B4C for Camaros. But, that doesn't mean it didn't exist.
The Camaros were bought by several states (CA & WI I know for sure, maybe others) as well as some local type depts.

i'm glad ohio highway patrol went for the t-tops there....
PA actually has 3 state police corvettes, (around 94's). one is marked, one is blue, and one is red (with vanity plates). they only use them on the turnpike and northeast extension from what i've heard. i also read this somewhere on the web, but i didn't save the pictures

I see camaro police cars around Oklahoma City all the time. Always have somebody pulled over. I've never been pulled over by a camaro. I got pulled over by a Mustang 5.0 once in Texas. Matt

It's funny cuz on his dash by the speedo there is a small sticker that says "Use overdrive in high-speed pursuit."

Here in Hawaii, cops use all sorts of cars. Hell I see more 98-02 black, tinted 'maro ss cops than I see crown vics. I was looking at a black '88 or '89 firbird cop car around the same time I was looking at the one I now own.
Also, there are tons of white 4runner cops... and I got pulled over by a white nissan suv something-or-other. A lot of hawaii cops are gay like that. A friend of mine keeps tellin' me he sees a camry cop car, but I doubt that.

North Carolina uses a ton of Camaros for police cars.
I should know; I've gotten pulled over by one
Here's a circa 2000 Camaro:

I've seen plenty of Firebird cop cars too, but mostly seizures / reposessions. They don't seem to use Firebirds new; only when they get a hold of one. I have no pics handy but many of them are D.A.R.E. cars and the like.
This next link is kind of long and weird but iI think it'll work. It's a google.com cache of a non-existent page, but the pics are still up! Go figure. It has a very good selection of 3rd gen and 4th gen camaro cop cars:

There are a ton of 3r gen Police Cars, I have a pic collection at home. There was no factory police service PRO like the B4C, however like kizz responded, the majority are Dare cars, like the TTA above.
I take issue to the use of police parading round in a siezed car. It gives the impression that if you sell drugs you can have a cool car like this. They should sell the cars and use the money instead to help educate children.
I can see why the Camaro was chosen for police duty, they blend in better cause everyone has one ! Firebirds are more expensive for a reason, CLASS !
As for the Firebird being slower thats and old wives tale has been in circulation for a long time. If the Camaro is so fast why would some owners have to change out the motor ?? heheh

After all, a cramped ride to the slammer may make you think twice next time

And I'm pretty sure the comment about the motor swap is sarcastic, I sure do hope so.

Firebird is more of a bottom breather, I'll give you that much, but there's no hard evidence it's slower.. anyone can dig up a road test comparison to prove things one way or the other, but I'll stick with my theory that a low option L98 Formula could outrun any thirdgen camaro by a tenth or two..
to stay on topic here's a few more copcars I dug up

Enough of the 'camaro is faster then the Firebird' and vice versa crap. Everyone has their opinions and they aren't going to change. Unless everyone wants to get together and race bone stock cars, the argument isn't going anywhere.
I won't tolerate bickering on my board. Not from Camaro owners, not from Firebird owners. Up till now I've just been deleting select messages here and there that are more argumenitive then others, from here on out, I'm just going to start banning repeat offenders.
For reference my official opinion is that the Firebird and the Camaro are going to run the same times if they're similarly equipped. There isn't enough difference between a Formula, GTA, or Z28, to warrant the kind of 'my car is faster than yours' crap that gets posted every couple of months.

Well the D.A.R.E. cars depend on the situation and or the police department. I have seen someone get pulled over by a DARE car for speeding.

I should have taken a picture of the one I passed this past week on a spring break road trip. I don't think he would appreciate the drunk passenger getting out and snapping a picture though.

Hey guys, this is my first post. I just bought a former dare car here in Ohio. It's still got DARE embroidered in the headrests. I just wanted to give my 2 cents on the cop car subject.

There are a few 01' 02' SS camaro Highway patrol cars where I live. They are pretty sweet looking. Also the crown victoria's have LT-1 engines. I know because I use to work at a tranny show and we worked on all Highway patrol cars. Go figure, a ford car with a chevy engine. Now thats must be saying something.

I've seen a lot more cop camaros then i have firebirds, just recently the California Highway Patrol bought a bunch of 02' SS camaros possible of doing 170, with ease. Well here is a picture of a B4C camaro i found, plus here is a little extra info on the B4C camaros: 1991 B4C `special service' police package became available to law enforcement agencies only. Cars were RS coupes with Z28 5.0 TPI or 5.7 TPI drivetrains and Z28 suspensions. These cars came equipped with the 16 inch wheels and P245/50-ZR16 tires, engine oil cooler, rear disc brakes, and limited slip axle. Midyear, the 1LE 11.86 inch front brakes and HD calipers became optional for the B4C.
This package was the only way to get air conditioning and the HD front brakes. There were 592 1991 B4C Camaros built.

Some neat cars but most of them are merely display type cars--few of these pics are of actual pursuit, regualr use cars.
