84' T/A Recaro WS6 15th ann. ed

Subject pretty much say's it all, found a T/A ran all the RPO's they say it is a 84 Trans Am with leather Reacaro seat's, L69 HO motor cowl plate #'s match a 15th ann. ed. got the WS4 and WS6 #'s too. black on black, mechanically sound, and structurally too, quite a bit of surface rust but no through and through, i was wondering if all those options together are hard to find, plus T-tops, AT 700r4, 3.73 gears and a y84 rpo which says it's a GTA pkg, plus what was really confusing is a n78 code with a qyz code which meant it came with 14 inch rims with 15 inch tires? and if it was a good buy for 800? thanks for your input

Y84 is a 82-84 Recaro Edition Trans Am:

15th Annv. Transd Am's had 16" wheel and were white. Sounds like you have an 84 Recaro Edition...

N78 / QYH are both 15 inch. What you have there is an 84 Recaro. only 1321 made, or at least that's the figure floating around. Mandatory black ground effects not found on any other 84, totally unique stripes not found on any other thirdgen and not reproduced by anyone to this day, has the unique micro-3D sail panel eagles of the later GTA's, has Recaro T/A door handles, mandatory gold N78 15 inch wheels. the t-tops you mentioned were optional, the L69 I don't know if it was mandatory but most 84recaro's seem to have it, 3.73 and 700R sound typical. interior is the major option. front bucket seats are Recaro bucket seats in tan color. If any of those cosmetic items I mentioned are gone or worn out or destroyed, then it's not worth a hell of a whole lot, because you can't really restore it properly without the seats and stripes and door handles and micro3D eagles. $800 sounds like a good deal. Do you have any pics?
good luck, GT

Is it just me, or does the hood on that Firebird look like its got less glossy paint/clearcoat than the rest of the car?

ahh, i'm probably just going nuts...

Bitchin' car, looks sweet. And you'd love the L69... great motors.

Well for one thing it's the lighting. The hood reflection is pure sky, so it does look a bit lighter in shade than the rest of it.

Plus you can't really see it in that angle, but the car had a pretty good layer of dust all over it so that made it look weird too.

so the paint is uniform and in pretty good shape.

Unique stuff about the 84recaro I can think of:

exterior stripes - totally unique; not found on any other thirdgen. and nobody reproduces them. Not even Phoenix Graphix. The hood bird and H.O. stickers are the same as any other 84, but the stripe kit is totally unique and irreplacaeble. I've seen a couple of 84Recaro's with the regular 84 gold stripes and it's a real shame.

3D tiny sail panel eagle: 83-84 recaro only. Same design as GTA eagles, but black & gold. nobody reproduces them as far as I know.

door handles (82-84 recaro only). can't get them anywhere.

W62 black ground effects mandatory. No other 84 T/A got black ground effects except the 84 recaro (I think). I know for a fact all other 84 BLACK Trans Am's had mandatory gold ground effects instead.

Interior front bucket Recaro seats, of course. 84recaro specific. once they're gone, they're gone. Even the best reupholsterer will get those corners and edges WRONG most of the time.

driver's right side knee rest. only found on 83 Daytona T/A and optional on 84 Trans Am's. I think it was mandatory on 84 Recaro, but not sure.

front bumper solid inserts. Again only found on 83 Daytona and 84 Trans Am with optional W62 ground effects (mandatory on 84 Recaro)

gold 15 inch wheels like the ones shown above are mandatory. the wheels are pretty much the most common thirdgen wheels ever, but they were made in gold color #55 in 1984 only. vivid gold eagle center cap.

if you have all that stuff, you got an excellent deal for $800 and I would treat it like th Holy Grail (figure of speech) unless you plan on going hotrod / aftermarket, etc. That would be a real shame in my opinion. mechanically it's like any other L69 and 700R.

Have fun and post pics if you can

I could be mistaken here, but I think I've seen a white 84 T/A with black GFX, black spoiler, and black mirrors. If I remember correctly the interior was tan and it had a rear window wiper.

Also, the Firebird 20 slot 15's were available in gold several years, not only 84. Any T/A with gold GFX usually got gold wheels.

black GFX: You're probably right White/black sounds perfectly valid for 84. I said "I think" because I was having brain lag, I guess.

gold wheels: True, they made 85+ N78's in gold, but they are not the same shade. Starting in '85 or so they changed to a more washed out shade of gold. Pretty sure it was not color #55 anymore. Don B's 85 Recaro is one of the few 85's I know with the 84-type vivid gold paint.

Look below. it's not just the lighting either. I've seen this difference in real life.

I've always assumed that they fade over time. But then again who knows.

Well it's not a night & day difference, but it is still a difference.. vivid gold = #55, newer faded gold = #60.

As far as I can tell the change happened in 1985. here's another example of the faded gold, on an 86. Color is #60. looks more like beige

Hey there ndrednek.
Welcome to the rarified atmosphere of Recaro owners!! There aren't many us so we have to keep the dream alive.

As you can see from my sig below I have a couple 84 Recaros plus a 15th Ann. If you have any questions as you are getting your car ship-shape feel free to send me an email.

As for gold colors,
#55 is Goldwing Metallic and is the correct color for 84 Recaro accent (stripes and wheels)
In 1984 there was also #65, Dark Goldwing Metallic.
My parts book lists#60 Champagne Gold Metallic for 1986.
I guess GM liked inventing shades of gold!

I had a hell of a time trying to find out the code for my gold trim. 84TAguy is right about the #60. But when I had some touch up done the gold was lighter and the painter said mine had just faded but i thought it was too light.

you can check out mine and 84ta's at http://www.gen-3.com

Old post, I figure it is better than starting another.

Can someone help me put together what golds were available for 82-87?

I have 1982 as Goldwing Metallic #55.
Same for 1983
1984 I have #65 Dark Goldwing Metallic and this post says that #55 carried over as well. I have also seen someone claim that 84 gold is lighter than 82-83 gold. ??
1985 Light Chestnut Metallic #60
1986 Champaign Gold Metallic #60
Same for 1987 as 1986

Are there more than this?

How do these seem to compare to one another? Noticeable difference from one year to the next?
