anyone know about the 1984 15th Anniv. (Trans Am 100 Pace Car) ??

a friend of mine sent me this pic not too long ago. Looks to be a totally stock 84 15th anniv Trans Am with a few lines of extra decals added on referring to a race called the "Pontiac Trans Am 100" in Detoit in June 23 1984.

I'd love to know more about it but not even google.com can find anything relevant. Does anyone know how many of these they used? I'm guessing one, maybe two. anyone know any other details? drop me a line

I've got a full color picture of that car on my HD. I'd love to know more about it as well...

That particular picture is from an issue of HPP. They did the story on the car. Ill go look for it right now...brb

Ok, its the February 2001 issue/ The article is entitled "The lexington express" (just a referance to where the owners live). Owned by a collector and his family, says they have 14 T/A's.

Car itself: 25,000 miles. Bone stock. Unfortunetly it dosent say much about the pace car aspect of the car.

I know mr.turbota knows more about the 84 Detroit G/P. Im sure he can fill us in on a bit more.

I can add to that..... My buddy had one of these way back in '85. Being that we live near Detroit he had an opportunity to buy the one Pace Car that was in the Detroit Grand Prix in '84. The car was used as a Pace Car and then it was sent to a suburban Detroit Pontiac dealer from where he bought it. He bought it with less than 5,000 miles on it in '85. He drove it locally for a couple years and then it when into the garage for quite a long time. It was started and pulled out here and there but for the most part it sat. The 15th was then traded in on a used car lot for get this; $7,000 with only 23,000 original miles showing on the clock. It had the Pace Car decals, original dry rotted Gatorbacks and even the original plugs. I went and looked at it a few times and I almost bought it but I had my 15th at the time and it was not feasible to have a second one; especially since I had a '96 Mustang GT sitting there with only 900 miles on it. It sold 3 weeks later for $11,000. For all I know, that car pictured could be it. The car was original and clean but need a good weekend of TLC.

For the record, those decals were the 3M reflective type and looked cool at night but I personally thought it was a little too much with the large Trans Am decals on the door and the striping. In any case, it was one of the sweetest rides of our time in our town. This is what prompted me to find one for myself a few years back. I loved them then and I love them now.

I wonder if there really is a market or interest in this type of Pace Car? What are your thoughts?

FYI.... There is a guy selling like 5 or 6 T/As in Ill. that all have ultra Low Miles. Check it out on www.hemmings.com. They range from a '79 10th Anniv. an '83 Daytone 50 Pace Car with 43,000 miles, and to two '84's. One being a 15th with 7,000 original miles and another '84 (non-15th Anniv.) with 13,000 miles. None of them are cheap but are very cool.
