Is there a 1983 WS6 Trans Am?
I am about to purchase a 1983 Trans Am and the guy whom has it claims it to be a WS6. Here's what all it has that I can think of. It has the black and gold paint scheme, 4 wheel disc brakes, posi track rear end, t-tops, power windows and locks, tilt, cruise, automatic and air, functional cowl induction type hood and the cross fire injected 305. The car has only 110, 000 miles on it, has new yokohoma tires on it all the way around, a new superflo cat back system??? Is there such a system? And new water pump. He only wants $1000 for it cash. I am going to buy it regardless of whether it is a WS6 or not but was curious if there was such an animal. Thanks

cool
exactly what I wanted to hear, heck ya. Only part that sucks is the car is 8 hours away from me. I am going to take a greyhound bus there and drive it back home.

here's a pic
Here is a pic of the car he sent me. I have not purchased it yet. I don't know is it worth the $1000 he's asking or do you think I should haggle?

Looks awesome. Yeah 83 WS6 is definitely a possibility. It was optional on the Trans Am and on the Firebird S/E. Just an observation: that sail panel eagle is way too big. I would guess the car has been repainted or had new decals at some point. I love the black & gold T/A's more than anything though. If you get more pics, I'd love to see it. Those are the original wheels and are kinda rare in gold. hang on to those. Interior seats look a little funky, but hard to tell. Nice car.

Kizz, I was told by a friend of mine that the larger birds on the sail panel and hood only came on Mecham cars. Is this true or is he full of it?

the Mecham MSE T/A's didn't have the sail panel bird at all.. they were a totally different beast. Different decals, 3D emblems, different rear spoiler, different engine / suspension options, different colors, optional Recaro seats, and who knows what else I'm forgetting. None of those features are factory, they are technically aftermarket. but the cars had a totally unique character to them and will be worth some money in the future, if any survive. If you saw one (in stock condition), you would know it was something different. here's a picture of an 83. they made 150 83's:

Gold N24 rims. Hang on to them.
The sail panel bird is too big. Looks like a hood bird.
It looks like it has the original thin body side moldings. If they are molded on the ends, they are probably original. If so, it's probably original paint. Although they could have been removed and replaced, or re-installed. Or even taped up. They are imposible to get in original cut.
Looks like a decent car, Good luck!

comment on interior
The guy says the front seats have seat covers on them that is why they don't look right, I talked him down to $900 in cash and am picking it up next weekend. I will take plenty of pics when I get it home if anyone wants to see them. I am excited over this one.

Fast68: Rarity and desirability are two different things. I personally like the early cars with those wheels, and they are becomming rare on the streets ( at least around Atlanta ). However, most people don't want old factory wheels. Only the pure resto guys might want them, and there aren't many resto people out there for these cars ( yet ). In other words, the rarity may be there as far as numbers. Even more rare may be someone who wants to buy them.
