Any kind of a third gen for $600 is a bargin, but try to trace the paperwork, check the vinplate on the windshield for tampering, there has to be a very good reason somebody has no paperwork or can't get it.

If he knows it is not stolen then tell him to marchs his a$$ down to the DMV and have them send him the title. Do not EVER buy a car with no title unless your gonna strip it for parts and even then be careful and carve off the VIN's in case the cops show up at your house one day...

the reason he doesnt have the title that the car was abandon in his next store neighbors yard me and he have gone dmv together and thay told us thaT THE CAR HAS NO LEANS AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO GET A BOUND FOR THE VALUE OF THE CAR IN ORDER TO TITLE IT SO WHAT DO U THINK NOW

I noticed you said it needs a total restoration.. sadly, most of those cosmetic parts you would need for an interior restoration of the '84 15th anniv are obsolete and long since discontinued, so it would be really hard and really expensive to do it right. I've never really seen a *really bad shape* 3rd gen restored in the literal sense of the word. They get patched together with parts that are "close enough" on a daily basis, but rarely restored. The Recaro seats will be the hardest part. Good luck. I think $600 is a pretty decent deal. Hopefully you can the title thing straightened out too

It might be worth $50.

I think we all can recall those deals we "should have" bought.

in NH most of us buy our cars with out a title due to the fact that after 15 years you dont need one all you need is a good bill of sale and your all set the only other prob would be if you where going to sell the car out of state after.

So you're going to spend $900 on a thirdgen that needs a total restoration and was abandoned? Why was it abandoned? Motor? tranny? stolen? I'd think long and hard about this, since if you were to look you could probably find a running driving 15th for $1500. Thirdgens are popping up around here dirt cheap. I wouldn't pay more then $200 for any used up thirdgen unless its a L98 or at least TPI.
Case in point, 86 T/A WS6 LB9, sitting in my driveway, paid $200. Was a really good deal, but I still have to put in a motor, probably a tranny, and a lot of little stuff.
My opinion, keep looking. Or for that matter, don't bother looking at all. These cars fall from the sky all the time.

good point but........ i now have a rare car not just a third gen but one 1500 and if u narrow it down more mine is a 5 speed and i belive the ther was much less of them made so i think i have a made a good investment. not only that but this car really is nice, ihave plenty of time aswell as money to get her looking the way it did whene it rolled of the showroom floor. so i will keep my little car and one day it will be one of the nicest trans am around.....were i live at least.

PhillipTabby, if you are willing to spend the time and the money GO FOR IT!!!!!!! I would do the same if I were in your shoes. What I wouldn't do to own a 15th. I have alot of respect for your decision. I get crap all the time for wanting to restore just a 84 Iron Duke that everyone tells me to throw to the junk yard dogs. The only way that would happen is if someone killed me first. I have also been told numerous times to sell my T/A too. It has been called a piece many a times. When someone sees what it can do I no longer hear any complaints, just "it only needs a paint job." Anyway, I feel the same way you do. It is worth restoring. I almost bought junk yard Birds plenty of times. My BF gave me nothing but guff. So like I said, GO FOR IT !!!!!!!!
P.S. CONGRATS!!!

I was talking with some guys at work prior to purchasing my 87 WS6 305 TPI LB9 car. I told them I wanted an 80's TA to restore and they were all like "why?" You have to do what you want to do. For what ever your reason. If you want the car and are willing to work on it and pay what is necessary to carry your dreams through then approval of those around you is only a bonus. It is in no way required. I bought my TA and I have alot of work to do on it. It's in decent shape though. Few of my friends understand my connection to the car. But hey it's my car. Screw them if they don't get it. Good choice and good luck with your mission of restoration.
