Who bought their car Brand New?

I like to know this, how it felt to drive off from the dealers with a brand new F-Body.

What were your first impressions?

Did the salesman try to BS you on stuff?

Any stories of heaven or hell on the day you picked it up?

I talked to the previous owner of my GTA about this( i'm the second owner ). He told me the day he pick it up, he smoked the tire out of the lot

And that the same week he almost lost his drivers license

Man he said he felt like a 20 year old kid all over again, he was a lawyer, so he got all the options available. That why its so loaded with goodies. He also glad to see i keep it in great shape. Man i have the car since i was 19, now i'm older and wiser... At 27 i'm still getting a kick *** rush everytime i start it, and rev it!. I love blasting away in the summer time.

So tell me your stories people!

I've bought 4 new Camaros, a '89RS, '91RS, 93 Z28 and a '95 Z28 convertible. My first Camaro was a '89 RS that I bought brand new in 1989. It was very exciting to drive around town in it the first night I had it, I had wanted a Camaro since grade school. My '87 Convertible was bought new by a university instructor for her 18 year old daughter for a high school graduation present, I have a picture of her sitting on the hood when the car was new (something that would not be permitted today of course) Chris

Hi All,
I am the owner of the orginal first V8 power third-gen Firebird delierved to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I took del. on Jan 26th 1982. The day I picked it up, it was SNOWING big time(4 to 6 inches). As I was driving to work, every ones head was turning to grab a look. The head turning contiued for almost a full year. I added a WING and Pin Stripping in April of 1982. A year latter I added my first set of custom wheels.

Now you all know that the car was hit by a woman who ran a stop sign the Monday before Thanksgiving.

Restoration is proceeding. The frame has now been strighten and the rebuild process is continuing. Estimated time of completion is now about 2 weeks from this Firiday.

I didn't buy my car new, but i got most of the usual (and unusual?) dealer BS when i got it from the previous owner, lol

He actually tried to convince me that the L69 was a 350, lol

but i ended up getting in for next to nothing... so 1 month later it DID have a 350, lol

I am original owner of my 87 IROC. I borrowed the dealer plate to bring it home and put in storage. There was a winter storm and the old Goodyear VR tires had no grip. I thought I might wreck it the first day I took ownership.

I've bought two thirdgens new. An '84 H.O. Z-28 and my current '90 IROC.

Bought both of them through AAFES overseas in Germany (Leighton Kassern and Robinson Barracks) while stationed there in the Army.

The '90 was a pre-Desert Storm gift to myself that was purchased in Aug '90 while waiting for deployment orders to SW Asia.

I still have it 175k miles later.

Drove mine off the lot March 31st 1989 as a teenager. Now I'm 33 and its STILL my daily driver.

I remember the salesman pressured me to take delivery before April 1st so (I assume) he could get credit for the sale for March. Maybe he was having a bad month.

My car has 9 previous owners including the company that sold it but its in a great condition. The guy i bought it from said its was a 350 because the emission sticker says so but the Vin number says its a 305 ho tpi. I went a head and bought it anyway because the car was in such great shape.

The only reason why I'm gonna tell you people this is because I think you all need a good laugh. I bought my 90 model off the floor when I was 16 (grandparents bought it for me), but my uncle had to drive it home for me cause I hadn't learned to drive a stick yet. But I was so bound and determined to drive my new car, that I had it all figured out by the end of two days. No turning back from that point on.

Hehe over here about 90% of the new cars is a "stick" car and the rest is auto but you have too pay extra for the auto.

Your 2002 Firebird Forumula is actually kind of rare. There were only 900 Formula Firebirds produced that year according to High Performance Pontiacs Farewell Trans-AM/Firebird issue. Most of the cars were either Trans-AMs or WS6 TA's and a few base model birds. Total production was just over 30,000 cars.

I had always wanted to purchase a Trans-AM new. My dream will not likely ever come true as they are no longer made.

You are correct, 87ws6, I think the actual number is 901. When the 0% APR posters went up in the summer, I walked the lot to find a non- WS6 T/A. As I was walking toward a black T/A to get the stock number, the window sticker of what I thought was a V6 car caught my eye. To my delight we had this Navy Blue Formula with a Hurst shifter on our back lot. I didn't know how (relatively) rare the car was at the time, but I loved the cloth and lack of ground effects. I took delivery the next day. No regrets whatsoever, although I did have to trade in my truck.

I remember seeing my first TV advertisement for the 82 Z28 in college and thinking WOW what a good lookin car. At first I couldn't believe it was a Chevy. A little more than a year later I had one. I also liked the Monte Carlo SS but it didn't come close to the Z28 in styling.

I ordered my 83 Z28 from the factory in April 1983 through a very small dealer (no longer there) near my hometown. I was a year out of college and didn't have a lot of cash so I didn't add alot of options. I sure wish I would have ordered the HO though. Some of you remember that in the early 80's the gas mileage frenzy was still rampant so my dealer mentioned the HO but talked me out of it. I remember when it came in the dealer was out of town for a couple days and because the dealership was so small he was the only one that could do the paper work so I had to wait to actually get the car a couple extra days. But, i did go down to the dealership and they had it parked in a "shed" and the guy there let me get in it and start it up. Wow to here those stock mufflers was awesome.

I remember when I finally got it and was driving back to Akron where I worked on 71 I could hardly believe it, as you know the car feels and sounds great at highway speeds.

BTW, I do remember that the Goodyear Eagle GTs were horrible in the snow!!!!!!!!!

This is an old thread but the stories are kind of interesting. I was 24 when I bought my Camaro new from a Chevy dealer in Arlington Texas. It was during the first week of March in 1988. I had heard from a coworker that they had an IROC convertable that was just what I was looking for. When I went down to take a look at the car it was kind of in the middle of the showroom floor right next to a black T-top 5.7 L IROC. They had to move some of the cars out of the way to be able to push it out of the doors for a test drive.

After I bought the car I had to get my auto insurance switched over. When I called the agent that I had at the time the girl I talked to recommended that I call them back after I turned 25, which was going to be in a couple of weeks. She said that they were required to cover me under my current policy for a period of time and that I really didn't want to know what the premium was going to be for a 24 year old on that car!

Now 17 years later the car has about 45,000 miles on it. Just like the first time I took it for a drive it is still exciting to take out on the road - on sunny days of course.

Bought mine new in '85. Paid $18500 AT 14% interest. Yes, lots of BS, yes, horror story (hood had dent and had to be repainted). Worst quality car I ever owned. Still have it. Yes, old topic, but people who didn't buy their's new still love to reply.

I ordered mine new from the dealership in early '91 . Actually, I was dealing with 2 dealerships at the time to see who would give me the best deal. Right now I'm considering selling it, but I don't know...

I bought my 89 GTA 350 new in 89. It was bright red with tan suede and t-tops with anaolge gauges with gold laced wheels. Being as this was before the internet my buddie and I shopped on sundays when they were closed to scout the T/A I wanted. I was 21 at the time. My uncle sold cars for something like 20 years at that point and I had been hearing his stories all my life of what they did to people.I already knew what to expect and what to do.I traded in my 83 T/A that I bought in senior year of high school. I was young and a wiseass with a big cash down payment. Me and my friend brutalized the sales guy and sales manager for over two hours. It was so much fun. When the sales guy first started to show us the car, we acting stupid. Everything he said we acting like two total morons. Oh, and of course we looked like two homeless guys. He kept prodding me to open it up and I drove like 30 MPH the whole time. I knew I was going to buy it and the performance it had so it was fun seeing his face when I said I don't drive fast or race and I never break the speed limit. I forget what I payed but it wasn't any where near sticker. I prentented to never gave them a real commintent that I was a serious buyer so they couldn't read me or as they say, find the customers objections as to why they won't take it home today. Oh it was so funny. I even got the finace mananger at the end. My unc taught me this trick, tell him you want the extended warranty at his intial full price if he'll lower the price of the car and interst rate a little bit. He took it it. Got em!! Once he commited to I prentened to have second doubts about buying the car for like 20 minutes then I balked at the warranty and told him to sell me the car at the new lower price with rate drop (he dropped 1% and $500 of car) or I walk right now. He was pissed. When I signed all the paperwork he stood up and said,"I heard you guys beat up my sales manager but I didn't think you were going to get me to, you played us for a sucker now take your friggin keys and get the hell out" No lie. That was the best car buying expierence I ever had. (I kept the car for 9 years and sold it with 62k on it in mint cond of course. All I ever did to car in those years was exhaust upgrade two sets of rotors and pads, one tune up, 4 anti-freeze changes, 2 sets of tires Goodrich T/A's, the gatorbacks sucked and rutine mantiance. Man that car was great)

I bought my '92 Z brand new in Dec of 1992. Best move I ever made. This is because I ended up with a car that isn't hacked up from previous owners. I've been through that before and am glad I don't need to go through that again.

I almost sold it a couple of times. And am now glad I didn't. Even for a C4, which may or not be hacked up.

I bought a brand new V-6 Brilliant red metallic firebird with 8 miles on it in 1990. I LOVED that car! I kept it until 98 then traded it in on a 96 T/A. I missed that car so much afterwards, I've owned at least one third gen along with the 96 T/A I still own.
Funny thing is, at the time I bought my new bird back then, I was hunting for (GASP!) a black turbo charged .................................................... Sunbird. The dealer said he had no Turbo Sunbirds, but had a nice Firebird in the back..................... the rest is history.

re "new" purchase

Well I didn't purchase the car "new" but I was the first registered owner in Australia. I had to wait about a month for the right hand drive conversion to be finished.

The car was waiting for me - roof down ready to cruise. I signed the delivery/registration papers. - There were about 10 other camaro's on the floor - mostly third gens, only 1 4th gen all right hand drive just waiting for an owner....

I picked it up in the evening from the Gold Coast and drove to Brisbane (about 1 hr) it was a perfect summer's evening - about 25 degrees.
