I can see left over yellow paint in your pics which confirms it was either Todd or Carl's car. The back end of their cars were yellowish.

Take globbs and globbs of pictures if you are going to rebuild the motor.. Make notes of all of the Yellow markings, then you can go to a hobby shop, get testors a Yellow paint marker and match them

Re: If you have a Players Challenge Car, please post here. (RPO- A4U, 1LE or R7U)
Your 91 TA appears to have a 92 engine installed as they were the only ones with the black valve covers. Up to 91 had the silver ones. I would know as my 91 Rob Fellows #1 car has the 92 update motor in it with the letter from GM Motorsport validating it for the 92 season. If you wanted to run your 91 in 92 you had to update the motor.

I also have one of the 89 Pace Cars from the West series that was used up at Westwood in Coquitlam BC. It is a full 1LE/R7U car as well but never had the cage mounted in it. Super clean car and all original numbers match.

I was lucky enough to track down the original owner/driver Barrie Ihaksi. He was nice enough to meet with me and give me some history and photos of my car.

Formula Vee started that way, it was supposed to be VW racing, but you had to use the engine from a Bug, The rules were pretty basic, and cheep, the cheap did not last.

John, that's the same in every level of racing - somebody with money steps in and changes the landscape!
The F.A.S.T. racing class was set up for guys who didn't have a lot of money, didn't have numbers matching cars but wanted to play with vintage stuff and have a loose rule book. It's gotten out of hand however with ZL1 aluminum blocks, Hemi Road Runners, and big block Corvettes pushing the limits.
A good friend of mine has the 68 RA II Firebird that's currently running in the 10's and will likely make it into the 9's before he's done. His car is an exercise in "What can we do if money is no object?" and has probably gone over 200k at this point. My 71 GT-37 on the other hand has less than 20k in it & that includes buying the car. My car will likely get into the 12's out in Stanton at the Pure Stock Drags this September in completely stock trim with no tricks.
That extra 2-3 seconds is mighty expensive!!!

Picked up this 1987 Camaro a few weeks ago. Raced in 1987 and again in 1988.
Rolling chassis so will be doing it up as a replica of Ron Fellows 1987 Motomaster car. Picture 1 is today before being rolled into shop, Pic 2 is when it raced in 1987 and Pic 3 is hopefully what it will look like when completed.

R7U was still used, it was used with or included 1LE. Mark would know better, but I think R7U was a spec RPO. Basically you ordered R7U and you got items X, Y & Z. That would make the most sense for ordering simplicity and keeping it all equal.

A4Q - 1986
A4U - 1987, 1988
R7U - 1989-1992
1LE appeared in 1989 obviously. 1988 was odd year that got the 1LE front brakes and such, but no 1LE code.

I'm searching for a cage for my car. I was able to contact Rick Davenport who built these for the western cars but has moved and thrown out the original templates. If anyone has one or knows of one please PM me! Thanks!!

Interesting! That car was raced in both east and west coast series' but whats really interesting is it had both sets of decals on it
What I mean by that is that it had sunoco and mohawk decals and the players ltd vs players ltee! Thats a new one for me! Pretty cool!
Id imagine its a west coast car because of the Preston Langley sponsorship... ironically my #1 car was a Peter Baljet Chevrolet car from Vancouver island but it was an east coast sunoco car. Go figure.

Which one is that? The 1991 #1 car? Or another?
Reason I ask is I have the 1992 #1 car with only 10000 original kms but they have east coast cages...
Just fyi
West coast cages (davenport) ones are way nicer esthetically speaking

He was talking to Jason about his car. The Davenport cages I agree are way nicer. My car had the later style that didn't cut through the dash

If you guys have a players car and are in need of either these engine plenum decals or nose/door players decals shoot me pm. I won't charge you for the engine one but the nose/door ones I'll just charge you whatever the print cost is. I spent $1000 on setup fees to have them replicated as I have a spare of the originals and they look good. Colour isn't perfect but it's really nice. I have both the English "ltd" and French "ltee" available and they are staggered letter nose ones just like the orioginals
Back when I was making them I sent them to mark_zz3 to have him find imperfections

Well got the car today...After years searching and researching here is my 1986 GM/Players Trans AM....Needs a restoration but with only 3800 KM and so many spare parts I think I should be in good shape. Has original engine, original race engine, roll cage, brembo brakes, original race seat, bill of sale etc etc... Should have some good left over parts if anyone out there is in need of some stuff. I will take lots of pictures to document stuff so anything specific you need send me an e-mail. Here are pictures of the car on the trailer, and a photo of it back when it was new.
